One of the many things I learned from spending two summers interning in New York City with prestigious fashion companies is that trends like to repeat themselves. Every season it seems like fashion trends in a particular decade come back again. Almost like the expression history repeats itself, it seems like fashion does too.
This season is all about the 70s with the flared jeans, the 80s with patches (click here to see how I completely transformed a denim jacket with a few patches) and you can’t forget chokers for that 90s grunge. I always yell at my mom for not keeping any of her clothes from back in the day. She always responds by saying she didn’t know that 20/30 years later those trends would be huge.
But luckily my mom and dad always share what they wore and what was popular back in the day. And when their memory about a certain trend is foggy the Internet is the best place to find inspiration. So keep on reading to time travel back to the 70s and embrace the flared jean trend.
Who else has been going bananas over the big Zara sale? It doesn’t help that I have to pass by a Zara every time I walk to the train station. So I’ve been shopping at Zara a lot so get ready for more posts featuring my Zara goodies.
I always wanted to experiment with flared denim so when I found a pair of high-waisted crop flared jeans at Zara for an awesome price I knew this was my chance. I don’t regret this purchase because these flared jeans totally take me out of my skinny jean comfort zone.
For a top to pair with my flared jeans, I knew I wanted something colorful. Although this top is not entirely 70s I can totally see someone from that time period wear this top. I found this shirt at Zara and it was such a bargain. Of course I tucked in a little portion of my blouse to show off the high-waisted feature of my jeans.
One style of shoes my mom always talks about is Candies. I heard from a pretty reliable source that they were the hit thing in the 70s. I’m so happy I got my hands on a pair of Candies platform wedges. In my opinion when you wear flared pants you need a heel for a boost of height to really exaggerate the flare.
As for arm candy, I am keeping it simple and just wearing my favorite Hollis Hayes elephant charm bracelet.
Maybe it’s just me but whenever I wear my Forever 21 round sunglasses I feel like a hippie so I knew this pair of sunglasses would complete my 70s look.
Thanks for time traveling with me and reading about my 70s inspired look. Let me know in the comments below if you are loving the 70s trend or can do away with it. See you next time!

Totally love the jeans! You’re so right about trends. It’s smart to be able to follow briefly and not devote too much money to each passing trend. Zara’s great for that! 😉
