Off Duty Style

Have you ever heard the term “off duty style?”  It usually refers to a model’s off duty style and I am far from being a model but I do have days where I don’t feel like dressing up or wearing tight, restrictive clothes.  Like today, I call this look my off duty style because it involves a simple, effortless formula…leggings, a loose fitting shirt, and sneakers. Keep on scrolling to read all about my off duty style.

It’s still a mystery to me why leggings are so comfortable.  Maybe it’s just the cozy cotton material that adjusts with your body unlike denim where it feels impossible to move in certain ways.  The key to getting away with wearing leggings in public and even an office setting is finding leggings with some sort of pattern.  When you wear leggings that aren’t just your typical solid black cotton leggings they look dressier and more stylish.  I love these gray and black mosaic patterned leggings from Ruby and Jenna.  The pattern is still neutral enough to wear with any top.  I wish the photos picked up more of the beautiful pattern in my leggings but for now just use your imagination.

When it comes to wearing leggings I always like to wear a top that is long enough to cover my backside. I think we should make that rule an official fashion rule when it comes to leggings.  So I decided to go with this oversized denim shirt from Zara.  As you know from one of my previous posts, I am digging the whole denim and pearl combo.  I was so happy to see this shirt featuring a subtle pearl detail on the pockets.  Plus, the oversized fit is so comfortable and just allows you to be free.

Since, we are sticking to a whole comfy and casual vibe what’s the point of wearing heeled booties? So I decided to break out my favorite Adidas brand sneakers.  Nothing screams casual, comfy chic, than a pair of sneakers.

As for jewelry, I’m just wearing this edgy silver choker from Forever 21.  Since the neckline of my shirt goes pretty far up, a choker is the perfect accessory.

We all have days where we just don’t want to put tons of time and effort into one look and this was certainly that day.  Although, I didn’t put too much thought into today’s outfit, I still think I pulled off a stylish look.  Let me know in the comments below what is your go to outfit when you are trying achieve that “off duty style.”

Splat!

Remember when you were in elementary school and the highlight of your school day was art class, or was that just me? Well anyway doing arts and crafts was my favorite and still is, but there was no better project than one that involved paint.  It was always a blast to dip my paint brush in my favorite colored paints and splatter it on a white piece of paper.  Sure, it made a mess, but it was the mess that made the best looking art pieces. I reminisce about this project simply because my sweater in today’s style post reminds me of all my splatter paint projects I did when I was younger. Keep on reading to see how I’m adding color on a dreary winter day and keeping my childhood memory alive.

Sadly, I don’t remember the last time I painted, so I’m simply relying on sweaters like this to keep my passion for art alive.  Shout out to my mom for digging through a pile of sale sweaters at Zara and finding this masterpiece.  She really knows my style.  I love how this sweater features tons of bright colors and a hint of metallic colors as well.  The “messy” pattern sure makes a statement plus the irregular cut sleeves add a whole other dimension to this sweater making it not just an ordinary sweater.

I hit up Zara at the right time because they were holding a major sale.  I scored these light wash, distressed denim, skinny jeans for an unbeatable price.  Of course, to show off my jeans I had to do the half tuck trick with my sweater!

I was totally feeling bold today so I brought out my metallic moto jacket recently purchased at Forever 21.  I think the metallic silver color against the bright colors in my sweater look awesome together. Plus, with a jacket like this you can either wear it the normal way or channel your inner Kim K and drape it over your shoulders.

For shoes, I’m wearing my edgy black booties from Lord and Taylor.  A statement outfit like this just calls for a simple choice of footwear.

The same thing goes for jewelry, I didn’t want to overdo it with jewelry so I’m wearing my delicate gold necklace I got from a boutique in London.

It’s cool how one fashion piece can stimulate a few memories from childhood.  Who knew that a messy project like splatter paint could produce the most beautiful art work and in this case the coolest kind of sweater.  Keep the conversation going and let me know in the comments below if there is any clothing in your wardrobe that brings back some memories.  Talk soon!

How To Use Your Beauty & Fashion To Celebrate Life

Beauty and fashion, from a critical and pessimistic perspective, could be considered as a waste of time.  Surely it’s just time spent in narcissism, painting our faces and wearing the best new clothes in an effort to look better than the next person?  Surely we have too high an opinion of ourselves to even begin in the first place, and this is emphasized in the fact that we continually spend our money to achieve such an aim?

Pexels

Not so.  In fact, what was mentioned above could not be more wrong.  Fashion and beauty are not silly or inconsequential things.  They can mean everything to the root of our lives, and can imbue us with meaning and positive feelings regarding our identity, our place in the world, our self-respect, and our ability to celebrate life.  Beauty is absolutely worthwhile in a range of different scenarios, and for a range of different reasons.

Beauty & Fashion Are Seasonal

The only constant regarding beauty and fashion are that they continually change.  Trends arise almost as fast as they fall, and seasons bring with them entirely new wardrobes if we hope to stay updated.  Some might consider this a burden, but there’s almost no need for this to be considered the case.  How better to express the beauty of living in the moment and celebrating what’s here than to dress in accordance with the world around you?  Autumnal colors furthers that beauty of season when applied to your wardrobe. It shows that you care about the world around you, that you are connected with it.  Just like a mother placing Christmas decorations up during the festive period, adorning yourself with the fitting clothing is tantamount to celebrating the time you currently enjoy in all of its temperance.

It makes the world that little bit brighter.  It makes the season that little bit more comfortable.  It makes the temporal nature of the season a little more easy to enjoy and be part of, as opposed to worrying about what’s coming ahead.  This can seriously impact your positive emotion. For example, spring is now around the corner.  This can be a wonderful time to bring out the floral dresses, experiment with color and become the garden nymph you have felt like being since Christmas ended!

As we get older, the ability to play is often lost from us.  We do not dress up and play pretend as we did as children unless we enter an acting profession or go to a themed party.  While of course fashion and beauty is different and more refined than simply dressing up in a costume, the underpinnings of what make it so enjoyable are there.  Who doesn’t enjoy looking better, looking relevant and feeling updated?  This celebrates life to its core, and allows you to feel part of the times around you.  If you feel you need a major life upgrade, paying attention to your appearance can be a wonderful place to begin.

Pexels

Beauty & Fashion Are Experimental

To have fun with your appearance, sometimes you simply need to try and find an alternate means of expressing how you apply your beauty routine.  This could be as simple as a new personalized skin care routine to gain a new glow, or to try and wear colors you usually don’t.  If you’re not much of a dress person, wearing them could enhance your femininity and give you room to try something slightly out of your comfort zone.

The thing about beauty and fashion are that they influence our personality.  It’s likely you know this already. Dressing up and looking your best for a night on the town often feels like who you truly are, rather than wearing sweats and not showering for a full day while watching Netflix on your laptop. We all enjoy our comfort and indulgences, and of course we cannot afford to be made up at all hours of the day, but it’s likely you feel your absolute best and alive when you’re trying a new beautiful makeup line, or item of clothing.

Those critical of beauty interests often say that the people who indulge in it are often not confident when they can’t improve how they look.  From this they infer that it’s simply an exercise in masking insecurity. This couldn’t be further from the truth.  Someone who is able to express their inner beauty however they like will KNOW how beautiful they are.  Beauty is not an exercise in covering up, but enhancing our strengths.  It’s paying respect to the best parts of ourselves, parts that can often go ignored when we fail to express and enjoy them.

If you feel as though your beauty and fashion regime is starting to become a little stale, switch things up!  Go for a makeover or try a completely new lip kit.  Experimenting could potentially gift you a beautiful new style you adore, one which truly makes you feel like you.  So why not get started, because who cares what the critics or anyone else says?

Pexels

Beauty & Fashion Is Individual

There’s no better way to celebrate your individuality than to express it through beauty and clothing. People who criticize our wonderful hobby often think that what fashion you wear is inconsequential. Of course, you should never be tied to wearing ‘a certain style’ or ‘a certain designer brand’ or even designer wear at all, but you should understand that great fashion and beauty is an extension of you. It brings with it an extension of your identity, something which expresses your personality in every color and ruffle of fabric.  This doesn’t mean you should ever be overbearing about looking ‘perfect,’ instead you should feel free in the creative potential afforded to you.

There is simply no better way to feel and look great, celebrate yourself, practice self-respect, feel confident, understand your worth and generally enjoy your overall life more than grooming and honoring yourself with a look that makes you feel like you. Wether this is through wearing all black, simply rose tinting your cheeks or fully painting yourself into a beautiful new person, whatever makes you happy should be celebrated more than denigrated.  Making yourself look good often shows emotional health. It shows you’re open to positivity, happiness, social discourse and enjoying the things that come your way.  It shows you’re connected socially, whether you hope to attract that man or woman you’ve had your eye on for some time, or simply to look fantastic among your friends while elevating each other’s confidence.

Pexels

Don’t Sweat It

The only way that any of the previous advice can work and work well for you is to make sure you enjoy it. When you feel chained to looking good, it loses its excitement.  You do not need to look your best every day, or every week for that matter.  You only need to look good when it suits you, when feeling that way would lift your spirits, make you more confident, and help you feel secure in yourself. If you wear clothes for the sizing, the beauty, the craftsmanship of the fabrics and the way whole outfits can serve as expressions and even artistic statements, then you have a healthy attitude to this.  Don’t sweat the small stuff, and just wear what makes you happy and confident.

Pexels

With all of this applied to your general attitude around looking great, you can be sure to have a healthy hobby in fashion and beauty.

Baby It’s Cold Outside

We all know my relationship with the winter season.  It’s not just the gloomy, snowy weather, the inability to tan by a pool, or checking the weather every day to make sure no snow is in the forecast that will cause an inconvenience.  What it’s really about  is not being able to show off a killer outfit because you have to worry about bundling up.  Luckily, this winter season I don’t have to worry about hiding a great outfit because my new coat makes a statement and also keeps me so warm.  Keep on reading to see how I’m keeping warm and stylish in these freezing New England temperatures.

Santa Claus was right on the money when he left under the Christmas tree this Sam Edelman leopard printed coat.  Who doesn’t love to wear head to toe leopard?  Leopard is one of my favorite fashion prints so to have a coat featuring this pattern is everything I  could ask for.  The wool fabric makes it super warm and cozy, plus the elastic like band on the bottom makes it cinch just above my knees, giving the jacket a perfect silhouette.

As for jeans, I’m wearing my Just Black Denim brand distressed skinny jeans.  A classic go to pair of jeans in my wardrobe lately because of the color and high waisted fit.  Also, the cropped ankle lets me show off a fabulous pair of boots.

Speaking of a fabulous pair of boots, I’m loving my Lord and Taylor brand black booties.  The all black color, buckles, and stud details are all around edgy and I love it.

Since you can’t dare to go outside without some sort of scarf, I usually wear my simple black scarf from The Paper Store.  I just loop it around my neck and the soft fabric makes me feel toasty.

I wish I could say that the Michael Kors bag I’m holding is mine, but sadly it’s my mom’s.  I helped pick out this black envelope style bag for my mom for Christmas but now I’m wishing I picked it out for myself instead.  I love the edginess of the bag.  It kinda has all the same details featured on my shoes.  Although this bag isn’t mine it looks amazing paired with my outfit, so I couldn’t miss the photo opp.

As much as I love my coat, I’m still wishing for a short, mild, snowless winter.  But for now all my layers will have to do.  Let me know in the comments below how you stay stylish and warm on those cold winter days.

Camo Cool

We all have that one article of clothing, one color, one pattern, and so on that we are just attracted to, you know that feeling whenever you walk by it you need to buy it even though you have several versions of it in your closet.  For me, that’s anything camo, especially camo jackets.  So of course on one of my recent shopping trips, a camo patterned jacket caught my eye and I had to purchase it to hang along with my 3 other camo jackets, oh well.  For me, camo is a neutral pattern, it never goes out of style and looks great with everything.  So keep on reading to see how I style a classic camo jacket.

On my recent shopping trip to Lord and Taylor’s, my eye was completely drawn to this camo jacket by Design Lab.  I mean it makes sense because it features tons of pockets with stud embellishments. Plus, the loose, oversized fit makes it great to layer over sweaters for those cold winter days.  No matter how hard I tried to fight the urge to buy this jacket, I couldn’t resist and glad I couldn’t because I’ve been getting lots of use out of my jacket.

Like I mentioned above, you can wear whatever you want under this jacket, but today I just chose my simple black loose fitting tank top from Cotton On.  Having tank tops like this in your wardrobe, especially in neutral colors like white and black is super handy because you never know when you will need them for layering.

As you can tell by all my blog posts, Zara denim is the best denim, so naturally I am wearing these skinny jeans from Zara.  I love the deep gray color and subtle distressed detailing.

Regarding jewelry, I am wearing my favorite choker that I bought at a local art festival over the summer.  The gemstone choker by Omi by Lise is a beautiful white shade with different pops of vibrant colors.

As for shoes, I am wearing my heeled taupe booties from the brand Report.  I featured these studded boots a few times on my blog last year, but it wasn’t until I rediscovered them this year that I completely fell in love with them again and have been wearing them non stop.

So that concludes yet another style post.  Let me know in the comments below what is that one piece of clothing that you always have to have, even though you really don’t need because you have something similar in your closet.  Talk to you all soon!

Pearls & Denim

In the fashion world, denim and pearls are the hottest combo right now.  Just think of denim and pearls as your next peanut butter and jelly, oil and vinegar, tomato soup and grilled cheese, and so on.  Insert whatever food combo or combo in general that goes great together to understand the point I am trying to make, denim and pearls are the next big thing.  Now a days, you can find this stylish combo on a jacket, blouse, or pair of jeans and in today’s post it’s all about my pearl studded denim jacket.

Before, I get into the whole point of this post, which is my pearl embellished jean jacket, I have to give my metallic silver flared pants from Zara some love.  I mean how great are these pants? I love the flared, palazzo like fit.  Plus, the metallic, shiny color makes a statement for sure.  The best part about these pants is you can either dress them up or down. When I want to achieve more of a dressier look, I usually pair these trousers with a blazer, but today for my more dressed down look, it’s all about the denim jacket.

These fun pants, also features this “garbage bag waist,” hard to explain the origin on this style, but just looking at how the waist ties, you will get it.  Anyway, I decided to show off the waist by just wearing a simple, fitted white tank top from Zara.  We all know how much I love these tank tops, especially for layering.

So, for the moment you been waiting for…my denim jacket.  I purchased this bad boy months ago at Marshalls.  The jacket is by the brand Honey Punch and features this gorgeous pearl studding throughout the jacket.  It’s something about the feminine pearl embellishment attached to distressed denim that makes it super eye catching and trendy. Plus, I love the way the white pearls and denim color looks paired against my silver pants.

As for shoes, I am still trying to find the best types of shoes to pair with palazzo pants and when it comes to these pants, I love wearing my black flats with the buckle and stud details by the brand Dolce Vita.  These flats are perfect when you are looking to add a little edge to any outfit.

It’s funny how only a few pieces (in this case only an embellished denim jacket, metallic pants, and studded flats) can make you feel like a million bucks.  Whenever I wear this outfit, I feel super fancy. Cue the phrase “you fancy, huh?”  And my response to that is yes in this outfit, you better believe it.  Talk to you all in my next post!

Summer Forever

Hello everyone! Remember me? It’s been way too long since my last post and here’s the explanation. So I recently started my first “big girl” job in New York City. Working for a social content platform in the city that I love has been the best post grad experience. For the last couple of months I was so worried I was never going to find a job, but I kept telling myself to be patient and good things will come and to my surprise they did. Now, instead of spending my days applying for jobs, I am keeping extremely busy with work, finding myself not having too much time for my blog. I have been working at my new job for over 2 weeks now and I am starting to get used to managing a job and my blog. So as I get more into a routine you can expect more blog posts from me like today’s style post, which perfectly captures my summer style.

How can it already be the end of August? Just like every summer this summer has flown by. So with that being said, I issue summer forever. Although that is most likely not going to happen I’m going to keep on wearing this outfit as long as the weather allows.

What better way to celebrate summer than with this Old Navy floral jumpsuit? I still can’t believe I found this piece at Old Navy for such an incredible price. The bright floral print against the black coloring really makes this jumpsuit a statement piece.

This jumpsuit featuring a beautiful and bright floral pattern can certainly stand on its own, so for the rest of the outfit I chose to wear my delicate choker from Zara.

As for shoes, since the jumpsuit has a flared leg, adding a little extra height is the perfect way to elongate your legs. For me, it can’t be too much height because I’m still nursing that broken ankle but I decided to wear my brown colored suede lace up sandals from Payless.

Finally, to finish off this summer look, I am wearing my go-to aviator sunglasses from H&M and my favorite sun hat from Century 21. I love how it says day dreamer across the rim of the hat. Plus this hat hides any bad hair day while keeping you stylish and summer appropriate.

Although this outfit only consists of a few pieces, the jumpsuit, necklace, hat, sunglasses, and sandals, it still makes a statement for sure and allows me to capture the summer season a little bit longer. See you all in my next post, but if you can’t wait until then I highly recommend following me on Instagram for tons of updates and pictures.

Making A Statement

Making a statement in the fashion world is a breeze, thanks to fun, colorful, and elaborate jewelry. And for me over the past month, my lovely boot cast treating my broken ankle can also cause heads to turn, but that’s a whole different story.  Back to the jewelry, I have been no stranger to the whole statement necklace trend and have always found myself finishing up a simple look by adding an ornate necklace.  But lately statement necklaces have not just been in the spotlight, but so has statement earrings.  The statement earring trend started in the winter, continued into the spring and the summer and I have a feeling we will be seeing this trend transitioning into the autumn months. With my short hair, I always like to play around with funky earrings and today’s look emphasizes the idea that a pair of earrings can totally transform a look.

Since, this look focuses on my earrings, it’s only natural I start with my earrings.  Like I mentioned in my previous post, Etsy is the best place to shop for unique clothing pieces and accessories.  On one of my recent searches, I came across the store Kay and Star, owned by mother- daughter duo, Jordan and Julie.  These stylish shop owners stock their online store with the most colorful and extravagant jewelry pieces.  Immediately, when I saw these orange ombré tassel earrings, I knew they would make a statement.  These earrings certainly add a summer vibe to my look.

When the sun is out, the shoulders come out too.  The off the shoulder trend is not stopping anytime soon, so there is no better time to wear an off the shoulder dress than on a sunny, hot summer day. My chambray and denim colored dress is from Target.  Although, it appears simple, the ruffle detail and the off the shoulder look gives this dress a little something extra.

Speaking of a sunny, summer day, I had to throw on my favorite shades, which happen to be these brown, round sunglasses by London Fog.  I really like the small frame and the way they shape my face.

There is nothing more frustrating than having a broken ankle and only being able to wear one shoe, so for the sake of this post I decided to model my boot solo and hold up the sandals I would wear with this outfit.  What can I say?  I’m trying to be a fashion blogger while making the best out of an unfortunate situation.  So when this lovely boot comes off for good, which I hope is very soon because it’s been a month already, I plan to wear this pair of black, strappy sandals from Target.

Whenever I am figuring out my outfits, my goal is to always make a statement.  Fashion is not supposed to be boring.  So next time you find a crazy, colorful, statement worthy piece, don’t be afraid to buy it and wear it with confidence. See you all in my next post.

So Vintage

Cue the scene from Mean Girl.

Regina: Oh my God, I love your skirt!  Where did you get it?

Lea Edwards: It was my mom’s in the ’80s.

Regina: Vintage, so adorable.

Lea Edwards: Thanks.

Regina: [after girl walks away] That is the ugliest effing skirt I’ve ever seen.

Even though mean girl Regina was mocking the character’s vintage style, currently vintage fashion is all the rage in the fashion world.  Slowly, I have been shopping more vintage styles and incorporating unique pieces into my looks.  What’s great about vintage clothing is the history behind each piece. Vintage clothing, like the clothing featured in today’s post, can’t be found at the usual stores in the mall, like Forever 21, H&M, Zara, and so on, making them on of a kind.

The first vintage piece I am wearing in today’s look is from the Etsy shop, Solitary Consignments.  If you are looking to jump into the vintage world, I highly recommend browsing Etsy shops because you never know what you will find.  Throughout the Solitary Consignments shop, customers will find a huge selection of “pre loved clothing.”  The shop owners, Breanna and Shannon carefully handpick each item from different thrift stores in their area.  The duo found a stylish piece from their latest shopping trip and I am the proud owner of this vintage Tweety Bird sweatshirt.  I am loving the distressed detail and it’s very cool to know that Breanna and Shannon distressed this piece by hand. As you can tell they hand pick and hand distress their items with love.  They totally live up to their store’s motto, “giving great pieces a second chance.”

No one would know that before my jean shorts were jean shorts they were actually a pair of Levi jeans. In my journey of finding awesome vintage stores in my area, I came across Chic Jack’s Vintage Clothing, which is described as a “vintage heaven,” and it totally is!  At this store, you will find racks upon racks of authentic vintage clothing from the 1920s all the way up to the 1980s.  Nothing screams vintage than a pair of high waisted, distressed pair of jean shorts.  The loose, relaxed fit makes them the perfect jean shorts for any summer day.  Plus, just like my sweatshirt the owner hand distressed these shorts.  So cool!

Although they are not technically vintage, considering I have had these pair of Adidas shoes for only a month, they still have that retro vibe because the brand Adidas can be traced back to decades ago.

Finally, to tie together the vintage vibe of my outfit, of course I had to add a choker from Forever 21. Whenever I wear a choker, it instantly transports me back to the 90s.

For me, as I am experimenting more with the vintage style, I notice how different the style is, especially when I am use to shopping at popular retail stores.  But nothing is better than the thrill you get when rummaging through a local thrift store and discovering a unique item.  Let me know in the comments below if you are into vintage style and any vintage shopping tips. See you all in my next post!

Weekend Roundup

For those of you who don’t know, LivForStyle actually started on YouTube.  Back in the day, my favorite videos to upload were my monthly favorite videos, where towards the end of the month I would recap a few products I was loving throughout that month.  Although, it is not the end of the month just yet, I decided to go back to my roots, and round up some of my favorite products and things that piqued my interest these past couple of weeks.  And still nursing a broken ankle, I have been spending a lot of time laying by the pool or just simply laying on the couch, surfing the web and stumbling across some fascinating articles, binge worthy television shows, new songs, and amazing beauty products.

Freezing Your Jeans?

When it comes to my jeans, I hardly ever wash them.  Some may say that is disgusting but hear me out. After spending time working as a sales associate and stylist at Madewell and learning how to care for denim, I realized that washing your jeans after every time you wear them is not ideal because it can destroy the fit and the fabric.  Usually, when I wear denim I am only in them for a couple hours and avoid any sorts of spills, so I can get away with not washing them for weeks.  My secret to keeping my jeans fresh is throwing them in the dryer with a dryer sheet to “fluff” them up, but recently I discovered a new way to preserve your jeans and it doesn’t require the dryer but the freezer. According to the interesting article published on WhoWhatWear, freezing jeans preserves the color and fabric, but it also kills any bacteria on your jeans.  Who knew that freezing temperatures had this powerful affect on jeans? Maybe it is time to continue the non traditional form of washing my jeans and throw them in the freezer next to the tubs of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream.  What are your thoughts on this method?

Kesha’s New Hit

When I was scrolling through my Twitter feed, I saw that Kesha tweeted the release of her new song, Praying.  After Kesha took a hiatus from the music world, I was even more interested in her new single.  The title of the song, gave me the impression it was not going to be a party anthem like her popular song Tik Tok.  Instead, I knew this tune would have more of a personal note behind it.  As we all know, Kesha recently went through a lot, from the abuse from her manager, the court’s refusal to let her be free from his control, and her mental health issues that came along with the trauma.  Kesha has always been an outspoken artist when he comes to her mental health.  I applaud her for being so honest with her struggles with an eating disorder and depression, shining light that no one should suffer alone.  Her new song captures some pretty raw emotions, especially when she sings “I had to learn how to fight for myself,” giving her listeners a little preview into her struggles.  This song is  relatable for those who are going through any challenge, no matter big or small.  The sweet, soft melody and deep lyrics tells a story of finding the strength to forgive yourself and forgive others.  I highly recommend adding this song to your playlist when you need a little pick me up.

Revlon Colorstay Cream Eye Shadow

When I was big in the YouTube world, I have to be admit I spent lots more time on my makeup. I used to apply about 3-4 eye shadow colors and flawlessly blend them all together.  Although, I am still a makeup addict, I find myself just not having as much time as I did to sit and apply layers and layers of makeup.  Instead, I have been trying to find products that can reduce the time spent doing my makeup but still give me that well put together look.  If you haven’t tried the new Revlon Colorstay Cream Eye Shadows, what are you waiting for?  These long wear cream eye shadows comes with a brush for super easy application and are perfect for those days and nights you want to just swipe a beautiful color on your lid.  Not to mention the formula is long wearing and won’t sweat off your face, especially when you are at a pool party or dancing the night away.  My three favorite shades are Caramel, Pistachio, and Black Current.  When I’m feeling extra fancy, I apply the shade Caramel to my lids and then top it with an application of my favorite bronze eye shadow, but honestly these cream eye shadows look and work beautifully solo.

Younger

I usually don’t spend my free time watching television, but thanks to one special show, I find myself glued to the television every Wednesday night at 10:00 pm.  I am obsessing over the TV Land show Younger.  A couple of years ago, I had the opportunity to review the first season of the show on my blog (check it out here) and ever since then I’ve been hooked.  Now in its fourth season, Younger stars Liza (Sutton Foster), Kelsey (Hilary Duff), and others and their crazy adventures like trying to make a career in the publishing world or find love while trying to dodge some crazy secrets about themselves. The fourth season premiered a few weeks ago and there have already been lots of crazy drama and plot twists.  Not to mention, throughout this season and every season all the character’s style is on point.  I highly recommend tuning in every Wednesday, but for those who still have to catch up on episodes, head over to http://www.tvland.com/shows/younger to watch them all.

I really enjoy reading these types of round up posts and even better, I enjoy writing them, so let me know in the comments below if you would like to see more of these posts in the future.  Keep the discussion going by letting me know what you are loving or what things have piqued your interest.

Now Trending: Embroidery

While browsing through the photos featured in today’s style post, I can’t help but think what a refreshing change it is to see my right ankle in a pair of style booties, instead of the ugly gray medical boot that is acting as a cast for my broken ankle.  For those of who don’t follow me on any sort of social media (you’re missing out) I broke my ankle last week when I was vacationing in the Hamptons.  Of course, LivForStyle put style ahead of comfort and decided to wear a pair of high heels with her outfit one night and completely rolled her ankle.  So for the past week, I have been wearing only one pair of sensible flat shoes on my left foot and on my right foot is the oh so beautiful walking boot.  Luckily, I have some photos taken from the week before I became immobile to remind myself that I will be back on my feet in no time.

Today’s look is one of my favorite summer looks because it incorporates my favorite trend this season, embroidered denim.  This outfit was packed in my suitcase to be worn when I was in the Hamptons, but unfortunately it stayed in the suitcase because I had to cut my trip short because of my ankle.  But luckily, my ankle has not stopped me from wearing this look that features this embroidered denim skirt from Zara.  Who else can’t get enough of the embroidery trend this season? From denim to dresses to accessories, embroidery is the best way to turn something ordinary into a little more eye-catching just like this denim skirt.  I love how the floral embroidered pattern is subtle and just appears on the side of the skirt, making it a perfect piece for any occasion.

I paired a simple, olive colored tank from Cotton On to bring out the green color of the stems in the floral detail on my denim skirt.  I highly recommend buying these type of effortless tanks in every color because they are perfect to pair with pants and skirts that want to be the center of attention.

Whenever I am just wearing a shirt or dress without a jean jacket, sweater, cardigan, or vest, I always feel like my outfit is not complete.  I was looking in my closet for some sort of sweater to pair with this look and decided to ditch my usual cream sweater and opt for this beautiful light-weight, lace cardigan, kimono, duster, or whatever you would like to call it, from Target.  The beautiful, ivory color looks great with the olive shade and denim.

I should have worn these neutral colored booties from Marshalls more on my Hamptons trip.  Maybe these shoes would have saved me from a broken ankle.  I love adding a pair of booties with a denim skirt for that western kind of look.  Plus the cut outs featured in these booties keep your feet cool and sweat free, especially on those hot and humid summer days.

It was a pleasant surprise to see that my favorite art festival arrived to town last week, so of course I was eager to see if the brand Omi by Lise was showcased, and to my surprise it was.  So naturally, I purchased another unique, hand-blown glass stone choker necklace.  I love how each stone is different and when the sun shines on it, the stone reflects a variety of colors.  I can’t wait to wear more of my Omi by Lise pieces in the future.

Well that wraps up another style post and a little update of my hot mess of a life.  Let me know what are some of your favorite trends you are loving this season and how you incorporate them into your looks.  Talk you all in my next post.

Forever Florals

If someone asked me to describe one trend that never seems to go out of style, works for any season, and looks fabulous on everyone that would totally have to be floral prints.  Imagine going into a store or browsing through your favorite online shop and not seeing some sort of variation of the floral print?  The fashion world would be kind of boring without it, am I right?  You can find a floral print that works best for you.  Whether that’s the typical colorful print, more of a tropical floral pattern, black and white flowers, the list goes on.  Florals are not new to my blog.  In fact they have made quite an appearance.  Although, I usually stick to my neutral color palette, today’s post focuses on my new colorful floral kimono perfect for when you want to add more color to any look.

Before I get to the floral number in today’s look, let me comment on this beautiful, dusty rose-colored dress from Marshalls.  I normally don’t wear this pinky, blush color, but lately this color has been sneaking into my wardrobe.  Not to mention this color really pops against my summer tan and with my blonde hair.

It’s very important to have a selection of basic dresses like the one I am wearing today because a simple dress can be worn in so many different ways and with so many things you may have hanging in your closet.  At first, I thought this colorful kimono would clash with my dress, but in fact the white coloring and the array of colorful flowers really looks nice paired against my dress.  My new kimono from Tosave.com is going to be my go-to piece when I want to add a little color to any outfit and life in general.

Since the rest of my outfit is extremely vibrant, I wanted to keep my shoes and jewelry more on the neutral side.  So my chestnut colored suede lace up flats by Rampage will do.  And lastly, my favorite bronze elephant pendant necklace from Apricot Lane adds a finishing touch to my look without taking away the focus from all the bright colors in today’s look.

Florals are not new to my blog. In fact this popular print has made quite a few appearances over the months.  See here, here, here, here, here, and here.  So it’s no surprise that today’s post added to the extensive list of blog posts that feature flowers.  As fashionistas, we all have one print that we can’t get enough of.  So you now know mine is the floral print, so I am curious to hear yours.  Let me know in the comments below. See you all next time!

Make Your Home 50 Shades Brighter For Summer

Yes, summer is here again and for some people that will mean it’s time to hit the beach, lounge by the pool or head to the water parks. For others, it’s a chance to redesign and restyle their home giving it that summer style and summer feel. There are a few things you want from your new summer style at home. You want it to be cooler and brighter. When you get home, your house should offer you escape from the sweltering heat of the day. But it should also be beautifully decorated to highlight the wonderful bright colors that the natural world offers us through the summer season. So, let’s look at some of the ways we can brighten up your home.

A Fresh Lick Of Paint

Why not start by repainting some of the rooms in your home? Two colors come to mind for summer. One would be a beautiful sunny yellow that would be perfect for the kitchen, living area or perhaps even the hallway. Nothing says ‘welcome to my home’ more than a sunny yellow entrance hall. Of course, if this is a little too crazy for your minimalistic chic style, you can always opt for a cream color on the walls. The benefit of this of course is that lighter, brighter shades reflect heat so you’ll probably find the home is actually a lot cooler using this color of paint. It also makes the house feel spacious and open.

Of course, you don’t have to stop there. Once you have repainted the walls you can add some pretty wall decals. You’ll find plenty available for your home online. A personal favorite would be a 3D decal that makes it seem as though you have a built in shelf with a flower vase. These can really add some wonderful summer styles to your home without the need to remember to water those flowers! You can see an example of a great wall decal below. They are really easy to apply, and it only takes around ten minutes to get one stuck on the wall perfectly.

Not Just Brighter, Lighter

Let’s think about the bedroom for the moment because if you’re not careful, the bedroom can become a sweaty hell in the summer season. That’s why you’ll definitely want to think about some new bed linens. Your winter bed linens won’t do from June through August. Instead, you’ll need to think about using a lighter variety. Cotton percale bed linens are light and cool, perfect for those long, summer evenings. They’ll also make your bedroom look picture perfect. Best part is that your new bed linens will be a pleasure to sleep on because they are so soft.

A fan also would not go amiss in the bedroom if we’re honest. You’re probably thinking about those noisy, uncool plastic, larger cooling fans that you have to plug in. But what you should be thinking about instead is a large, wooden fan that you can get installed over the bed. These glide through the air silently, providing a perfect breeze down to you and will fit into any bedroom style.

Summer Fabrics

Although if you want to give your home a different aesthetic for summer, you really need to focus on summer fabrics. Particularly, we’re thinking about curtains now, and with the right summer fabric, you can add a lot to your windows. Summer fabrics are again. Think lighter fabrics, meaning that more of the sun’s rays can shine through but they can also be quite colorful. You’ll find elegant summer fabrics that have absolutely gorgeous patterns on them such as roses and a wide array of different flowers. Interior design stores start selling summer fabrics around this time, so they are worth looking for. Once you see what’s on offer, you’re bound to fall in love with a few of the designs.

But don’t stop there. Remember, to bring a room together, you need the right accessories too. You can get cushions for the sofa or the bed that will match the shades of your new curtains and give your entire room a brand new style.

Of course, you might want to keep the views of your beautiful garden or the front of your home unobstructed through the summer months. If that’s the case, consider replacing your curtains with valances. Valances allow you to see out through the window while shielding you from the heat of the day. So essentially, these accessories give you the best of both worlds.

Flower Power

If you really want to dress up your home for summer, you need to bring the scents of the season into your home. There’s no better way to do this than with some delightful flower arrangements. For your dining room, why not add some cream tulips that will look perfect against brighter walls and furniture. Or, you can choose an arrangement with a wide variety of different colors to bring fresh life to a room that is looking a tad dull and dreary. Nosegay bunches are the perfect option for this, and you should certainly think about picking up a bunch from your local flower shop.

You don’t need to stop there either. Rather than just adding flowers to your home, do try to put some bowls around the place with fresh fruit. These are going to give your home some wonderful, sweet scents that conjure up memories of summers past.

Optimizing The Outdoors

Then again, perhaps you find yourself spending most of your time in the garden through the summer months. After all, if the weather is beautiful, it’s going to be the perfect place to dine. So, let’s look at some of the ways you can dress up your garden, creating the perfect outdoor space for you and your guests. There are plenty of ways to bring an outdoor space for wining or dining to life.

For instance, you can add a beautiful stone table to your backyard, complete with some minimalistic chairs, creating a chic spot for an early breakfast. Or, if you have a deck in your back yard, perhaps you should add some luxury furniture, making it the perfect place to sit out. Remember, the days of plastic furniture for the outdoors are behind us. Now, your outdoor seating area can be just as luxurious as the front room of your home. Don’t be afraid to let the garden spread through your seating area either. This just means adding a few plants and decorative pots, giving your patio much-needed character. Although, you can always go retro and opt for a rustic bench in your backyard. With the right stylish choices to complement it, this can be lovely new centerpiece for your garden.

Bring Out The Beauty Of Your Furniture

Dark and neutral colors are fine for your furniture in the winter, but what about summer? Again, it’s time to brighten up the place a little more and don’t worry, that doesn’t mean you have to buy brand new furniture for your home. You can cheat a little here. Instead of investing in new furniture for summer, why not just get some slip covers. That way, you can keep the cost of the redesign low and still get a brand new look in every room of your home for the new season.

Or better yet, cover the furniture that you want to style up completely with a beautiful throw. Make sure you look for throws that are brighter shades to make them stand out in your room.

I hope you have fun using these ideas to brighten up your own home for the summer season.
