Beauty Trends That Need To Go In 2017

It’s crazy to think that we are already 19 days into the New Year.  Anyway, I was so overwhelmed by the positive feedback I received from my Fashion Trends That Need To Go In 2017 post (if you haven’t read it yet, click here).  After reading all your interesting comments, I decided to write a similar post, this time reflecting on the outrageous beauty trends in 2016 that I hope won’t roll over into 2017.  I know 2016 is now in the past and we should be moving forward, but I can’t help to point out the beauty trends in 2016 that in my opinion were far from glamorous.  Keep on reading for the beauty trends that need to go in 2017.

100 layers challenge

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Please tell me you have seen the 100 layers challenge videos on YouTube.  You know, the videos where someone proceeds to layer on absurd amounts of makeup on their face, eyes, lips, and nails.  If you have no idea what I am talking about check out Jenna Marbles 100 layers challenge video.  After watching her apply layers of false eyelashes, tanner, nail polish, foundation, lip color, and hair spray you will be left shocked.  After watching all these 100 layer challenge videos on YouTube, I can’t help but to think how do these people have this much time to kill for applying ridiculous amounts of makeup. I barely have time to apply one layer of my daily makeup routine, let alone 100 layers.  Also, this beauty fad just is so bad for your skin and nails.  I sometimes break out when I apply a little amount of foundation, what would happened if I smeared layers upon layers of foundation on my skin?  Whether people are just doing this to rack up views on YouTube or actually wearing these looks in public, I hope we will ditch the 100 layers challenge and realize that a little bit of makeup goes a long way.

 Contouring overload

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Kind of similar to the 100 layers challenge, but although you are not applying 100 layers of makeup to your skin, you are still applying unreasonable amounts of bronzer and highlight to your face for that perfect contour look.  Once again, who has the time to spend strategically blending powder all over their face to highlight cheekbones or make their nose look smaller.  To me, contouring is just used to cover up your natural features.  Maybe I would be into this trend if I was Kim Kardashian and had time to sit in a makeup chair while a professional makeup artist does my contouring and highlighting.  But, for right now I will stick to my occasional use of bronzer and highlighter when I have extra time in the morning and looking for ways to tune up my makeup game.

 Fake freckles

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Don’t get me wrong, I think makeup is a form of art, so I love seeing elaborate and colorful makeup looks on the runway.  But when you are incorporating fake freckles into your every day makeup look that is where I have a problem.  I have seen many designers using the fake freckle makeup trend on their models and it looks beautiful, but I do not think I can get away with walking around my very preppy campus with fake freckles.  But, if you are looking to make a statement, go ahead embrace this trend, but for me it is a little to crazy for me to wear everyday, except if I am walking on the runway or in a cool editorial photo shoot.

Intense nail art

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Whenever I either paint my nails at home or get my nails done at a salon, my nails chip within 24 hours.  If you don’t need to use your hands at all, then you can pull off having flowers or fur on your nails.  But, I can just imagine what my nails would look like after a day with a crazy manicure like the ones shown above.  Between going to class, using my computer, going to the gym, cooking dinner, and all my other daily activities, I can only handle a single color manicure and just expect it to chip within a day.

Pink eye shadow

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I hate to put this makeup trend on my list because I am aware that a huge trend for 2017 whether in fashion or makeup is the color pink. I am not a pink girl, but I am trying to gradually incorporate different hues of the shade into my wardrobe.  However, I have not jumped on the pink eye shadow makeup trend yet.  Something about bright pink eye shadow on my lids just makes my eyes look like I have a nasty eye infection.  I don’t want to walk around with pink eye makeup and people think I have pink eye because that is never a good look.  I should be more open to trying new makeup looks, so if you have any subtle pink eye shadow makeup looks let me know, because if the look is easy to recreate and not to bright, I am willing to give it a try.

 No makeup makeup look

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I feel like I am now contradicting myself because I just hated on all those exotic makeup looks, now I am hating on a natural makeup look.  To be honest, I am not hating on the “no makeup makeup look,” I am really hating on the title because let’s get real when celebrities claim they are not wearing makeup, they usually are wearing some sort of moisturizer, concealer, blush, or even fake lashes, so how can they say they are not wearing makeup?  I think the recent article published on the website Mic, perfectly sums up my thoughts on this trend.  By using the phrase “no makeup makeup look,” it is an oxymoron because like I said usually these looks require some sort of product.  If you really want to embrace the no makeup makeup look, wake up, wash your face, and head out the door, now that is the ultimate all natural and fresh look.

I think I am done recapping trends from last year, now it is time to look forward and start analyzing the trends for 2017.  Can’t wait for the upcoming New York Fashion Week shows.  I am very hopeful this years trends will be spot on.  Let me know in the comments below if there were any beauty trends in 2016 that you were not a big fan of.  I would love to hear your thoughts and ideas.  I hope everyone is having a great start to 2017.  Talk to you all soon!

Liv and Lauren’s Style: Her Campus College Fashion Week

Here it is…the long overdue outfit post from the Her Campus College Fashion Week show last weekend.  No need for a lengthy intro because you can read all about my College Fashion Week experience here.  This post is all about me and my friend Lauren’s fashionable looks for our night out in New York City.  Keep scrolling to see more pictures of the stylish, dynamic duo, Liv and Lauren.

2016-10-01-15-32-41

For my look, I was channeling my inner Kim K with a tight pencil skirt and body suit. Since it was a nighttime event, I chose dark colors and pops of sparkle.  My H&M pencil skirt had just the right amount of glam, especially with that slit down the side.

2016-10-01-15-07-25

My new obsession this season is bodysuits, they are so easy to wear and style.  I kept it simple with a black body suit from Forever 21.

2016-10-01-15-06-26

Since it was low cut, I wanted to accessorize to the max. I love my choker and necklace set from Apricot Lane, along with my silver coin earrings also from Apricot Lane.

Finally, a big shout out to my amazing roommate Mckenzi for letting me borrow her black platform heels from H&M.  They totally completed my nighttime look.

As for Lauren, she always dresses to the nines.  For the fashion show, she wore a velvet maxi dress from Zara and paired it with a denim jacket from Brandy Melville.

img_2709

Throughout the night, she wore her denim jacket draped across her shoulders for an effortlessly chic look.

img_2712

As for accessories, she of course wore her favorite choker from Brandy Melville and her oh so sexy strappy black heels by Steve Madden.  It’s safe to say that my best friend has style.

img_2710

You can tell by the two posts that the Her Campus fashion show was a HIT!  It was a chance for two best friends to enjoy each other’s company with a night out in the city, as well as to dress to impress and discover new and empowering fashion designers.

2016-10-01-15-30-42

Hope everyone is enjoying the beginning of the fall season.  Although first semester of senior year has been tough, trying to balance school work with a social life and a blog, the changing leaves and the cool, brisk air is inspiring me and my outfits, so keep your eyes open for new posts coming soon.

Vacations and golden skin may be a thing of the past. But the arrival of fall is not all bad news. It’s a perfect excuse to revamp your wardrobe, and try out some brand new looks. It’s the perfect time to revamp your capsule wardrobe that is a wardrobe that includes the essential pieces that will never go out of style. INVESTING IN THE BASICS

Never underestimate the importance of basics. If you get the essentials right, it’s much easier to build versatile, stylish outfits. As the cooler weather approaches, it’s time to invest in warm layers. Think long-sleeved crew neck tops and polo necks. Add some opaque tights and a few well-fitted pairs of jeans, and you’ve got the foundations pinned down.

REMIXING THOSE SUMMER FAVORITES

You don’t have to put your skirts and dresses away just because the sun has gone into hiding. With the right layers, you can remix your summer style. Team a patterned dress with a pair of thick tights, a biker jacket, and ankle boots for a cool autumnal look. Wear a plain polo neck underneath a denim pinafore dress, or throw a cardigan over the top.

GOING FOR VERSATILE STYLE

When you’re building a capsule wardrobe, it’s advisable to opt for versatile styles. Think about clothes that you wear over and over again. For example, jeans are a staple of most people’s wardrobes. Once you’ve got a pair you love, you can wear them with shirts, blouses, tees and blazers. You can dress them up or down for any occasion. The classic LBD is another worthwhile investment piece.

ACCESSORIZING

Accessories can change an outfit in an instant. If you have bags, shoes, and scarves, you can turn a simple ensemble into several different looks. Add color, mix and match prints, and make your outfit unique. In the fall, hats, bags and statement necklaces are fantastic investments. If you don’t have time to get to the mall, have a look online. You’ll find amazing ideas and styling tips, and you can check out sites like Belt N Bags.

ADDING KEY PIECES

Every capsule collection should have a mixture of staples and key pieces. These eye-catching additions tick off the new season trends and add interest to your wardrobe. In the colder seasons, you may consider spending a little more on a fabulous coat or a killer pair of boots,. Browse fashion magazines and check out your favorite celebrities’ Instagram pages for inspiration.

You may not want to bid farewell to the summer, but the arrival of cooler temperatures offers a great excuse to go shopping. Creating a capsule wardrobe is an excellent way of keeping up to date without spending a fortune. Invest in some basics, recycle your favorite looks and learn to accessorize. Add some trend-ticking statement purchases, and be versatile when you’re styling your outfits.

#TRACKISBACK

The fashion world has been going nuts over the re- launch of a very popular at the start of the decade; I am talking about the matching velour Juicy Couture jumpsuit. Paris Hilton, Mariah Carey, Kim K, Brittany Spears, and many other celebs loved to model the Juicy Couture velour tracksuits back in the 2000s.

MTI4ODM2MzUxMTQyNDA2Nzg3

kim-kardashian-tbt-600x450

It was because of these celebs, that at every birthday and Christmas I would always ask my parents for one of these most coveted fashion items. Sadly, I was never the girl rocking the popular hot pink tracksuit with the dangling J on the zipper. In fact, I was not mad at my parents for not buying me a Juicy jump suit; I loved wearing my knockoff velour suits from places like Old Navy and The Children’s Place. I could get like 10 jumpsuits for the price of one Juicy Couture tracksuit. But sadly, since I wore the jumpsuits without the J charm, I was not considered “cool,” oh well.   For $200, my parents would rather not spend it on a piece of fabric that was just a trend, and boy were they right because within a short time, the matchy match jumpsuit was no longer the buzz. In fact, in 2014 the creators of Juicy Couture closed all of their stores. The once coveted Juicy Couture was replaced with the arrival of new trends, like skinny jeans.

Now in 2016, everyone can’t get enough of the athlesuire trend. Athlesiure can be described as casual and comfy athletic clothes that look like you just went to the gym but are actually just super fashion forward. Think Lululemon leggings, nylon quarter zip ups, and classic Adidas sneakers.

But what’s the athleisure trend without a good track suit? So the time is right for Juicy Couture to rebrand and luckily Bloomingdales agrees. Juicy Couture and Bloomingdales re-launched the popular velour jumpsuit. At Bloomingdales you can find the ever so popular low-rise pants with matching slim fit jacket with the iconic J charm on the zipper. The limited designer collection is all about bringing back the tracksuit and the look of the 2000s. If you were a big fan of this look at the beginning of the new century you are going to love the #TRACKISBACK campaign. Head over to Bloomingdale’s to purchase the timeless hoodie and flared pant set in seven different colors for $108.

Remember in my 70’s post, seen here, I said trends like to repeat themselves, well the Juicy Track Suit is just another example of the repeating fashion cycle. Let me know in the comments below if you will be re-living the 2000s by sporting one of the revamped tracksuit or would you rather not wear head to toe velour.

Halfway To The Weekend

Raise your hand if you took full advantage of the Zara sale this year. If you saw me right now, you would see both of my hands raised because I totally went nuts over the Zara sale. The annual Zara sale usually starts in June and lasts until what it seems like when they run of out sale merchandise. Practically all their merchandise is marked down. A fashionistas dream. However, if you missed this sale, I believe there is a very, very limited selection of sale items in stores and online. But don’t worry because this huge sale made room for their new collections and let me tell you Zaras new collection is on point. Can’t wait to shop some more. Sorry wallet.

IMG_3045

Throughout the month of June and July, I found myself visiting Zara by the train station every morning before work and every evening after work. Walking by the store everyday was dangerous. Some days leaving empty handed and other days scoring great deals. So with that being said my wardrobe greatly increased thanks to Zara and I can’t wait to style my new pieces. I already styled my new favorite Zara blouse and flared jeans for one of my posts. Check it out here.

IMG_3046

This post features two more of my favorite Zara pieces, a one of a kind kimono and a pair of distressed relaxed jeans. I am loving how this season is all about different fits of denim, not just the skinny jean. I’d rather slip into a pair of comfortable, loose fit jeans than a pair of skinny jeans any day. My Zara relaxed jeans have the right amount of stretch. Plus the light denim wash and distressed detailing makes these jeans my favorite for the summer season and the transition into fall. Of course I cuffed my jeans because I feel like cuffing your jeans is a rule when it comes to boyfriend and relaxed jeans.

IMG_3056

IMG_3052

The second star of my outfit is this one-of-a-kind kimono from Zara. I love the neutral pattern with pops of gold and rust shades, tassels, and coins. Since my kimono has alot of details, I paired it with a simple black t-shirt from Cotton On.

IMG_3057

IMG_3062

IMG_3057

An open kimono totally needs a necklace and what better necklace to wear is my pineapple pendant necklace from Charming Charlie. So cute!

IMG_3063

For shoes, you can’t go wrong with a pair of laced up flats. I see these Rampage shoes as the perfect transition pair of shoes for the fall.

IMG_3067

Of course, you have to keep the sun out of your eyes and there is no better way to do so than wearing my favorite Firvoo sunglasses. These sunglasses are my go-to, especially on those days when I don’t feel like wearing makeup and feel like hiding from the world.

IMG_3044

There is no better feeling than shopping and adding new items to your wardrobe. I have a feeling my closet will be growing larger as we head into fall. Who else participated in the Zara sale? If so, what did you find? Also, let me know if any of you have scored some other great sales? I am always in the mood to shop. Talk to you all soon.

Manus x Machina: Fashion In An Age Of Technology

One of the many things on my summer bucket list was to go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to see their exciting fashion exhibit, Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology. Luckily, a few weeks ago I had the chance to explore the exhibit and the entire museum.

IMG_3155

IMG_3167

IMG_3191

IMG_3189

I was blown away by how extensive the exhibit was. The exhibit includes over 170 ensembles, showing that fashion is more than just dressing but truly an art form. Each piece showcased in the exhibit highlighted the connection between technology and fashion.

IMG_3184

IMG_3152

IMG_3195

IMG_3208

I enjoyed how the exhibit was divided based on fabrication or detail, including pleats, tulle, sequins, feathers, embroidery, artificial flowers, and lace. This really emphasized how special each piece was and the role of the hand (manus) and the machine (machina) in the design and manufacture of the piece.

IMG_3176

IMG_3165

IMG_3182

IMG_3160

IMG_3158

When I was walking around the exhibit, I made sure to take a few photos and jot down a few of my reactions to what I saw. Keep on reading to hear my commentary on the exhibit and the evolving fashion world.

IMG_3133

IMG_3136

IMG_3206

IMG_3172

  • Although, we shouldn’t heavily rely on technology, let’s face it our world is becoming more technologically advanced whether we like it or not. So instead of ignoring these achievements within technology we must recognize them and use them to our advantage.
  • We should always keep in mind the differences between the hand and the machine. To be honest, no machine could produce as incredible a piece than the hand because a hand-crafted piece is one of a kind, taking patience, time, and dedication to the craft.
  • I agree hand-made items are seen as more valuable; however we can’t completely neglect technology or see it as less valuable. Just like Miuccia Prada said, “For me, mixing the hand and the machine gives the best results.” To me, what is most valuable is the designer’s passion and time they put into their design.
    IMG_3127
  • While looking at the many pieces throughout the exhibit, I noticed that most of the embroidery and floral details were done by hand so the artist/designer could strategically hand place crystals or other embellishments onto the fabric, thus making it more unique.
  • After learning more about the distinction between the hand and the machine, I realized you have more control over things produced by hand, meaning you can manipulate your piece in a way that is visually appealing to your audience.IMG_3209
  • Regarding the hand, imperfections are generally only seen in handmade products. Unlike a machine, humans cannot make everything perfect. However, instead of finding fault in a misplaced button or crystal we actually find beauty and uniqueness in it.
  • The exhibit also touched on the differences between ready to wear fashion and haute couture. Now we live in a world that mostly follows the ready to wear fashion model. However, one of thee most important distinctions between ready to wear fashion and haute couture is in the details. For example, just look at the elaborate embroidery in the wedding dress by Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel. That piece of haute couture fashion cannot be produced in one day.
  • Lastly, the most beautiful gowns worn by celebrities on the red carpet or the clothes we have in our very own closet are all produced with the help from the hand and the machine.IMG_3201

Are you a big fashion lover or art fan? I highly suggest visiting the met in New York City before this exhibit closes on September 5th. You won’t regret it. For those who have seen the exhibit what were some of your highlights of your trip?

Little Miss Sunshine

Technically summer doesn’t officially end until the end of September but in the retail world it seems like after Fourth of July they switch to back to school and fall fashion mode. As much as I hate the thought of summer ending I’m trying to look on the bright side and focus on my love for fall fashion and of course the end of summer sales. Although most of the sales involve summer merchandise like shorts, rompers, tanks, and so on, with the art of layering you can certainly transition those pieces into the fall.

IMG_2960

IMG_2989

It seems like H&M rarely has sales because their merchandise is so inexpensive anyway but 80% off select merchandise piqued my interest. With only a few minutes to shop I found two items that were calling my name.

IMG_2976

I first picked up this beautiful skirt. I love the unique tie-dye design and the mustard color. I can see myself wearing this skirt into the fall because of that rich color. The skirt is flowy and high-waisted which I like. It’s not as long as a maxi skirt but not as short as a mini skirt just the perfect in between.

IMG_2983

Since picking up this skirt for only $15 I knew I wanted a fitted cream colored top to bring out the cream color in the skirt and not take away from the beauty of the yellow shade. I wanted something fitted so I can have the option to either tuck it in or knot it. I chose this simple $5 t-shirt and it goes great with my skirt and many other pieces in my closet. Funny thing is that it’s not supposed to be off the shoulder but the shoulder area fits a little weird and loose so a simple off the shoulder fix did the trick.

IMG_2991

IMG_2970

For jewelry I am loving anything gold and anything with tassels. So this Charming Charlie necklace matched perfectly with my outfit and the whole vibe of the look.

IMG_2978

Shoes were a no brainer. I chose to wear another pair of my vintage Candies wedges. They are a little high so taking photos on a rocky surface was a challenge. Luckily I didn’t fall. That’s an accomplishment.

IMG_2974

This summer I discovered my love for summer fedora like hats. I totally need to expand my hat collection because if I post myself wearing this hat one more time on my blog or Instagram I have a feeling my readers will be like what the heck we get it, you like that hat. I can’t help it but I just feel so fashion forward in my hat plus it covers up any bad hair days.

IMG_2964

Lastly, before heading out the door I grabbed my favorite Steve Madden sunglasses. They are not new to the blog. See how I style them here.

IMG_2991

Between the H&M sale and the Zara sale (look out for a new post featuring Zara soon), I have been shopping like crazy. I guess that’s what happens when your day consists of analyzing fashion trends, reading style blogs, and spending the days in New York City. My closet is happy, but my wallet not so much.

IMG_2987

Hope everyone is enjoying their summer and continue to soak up the summer sun before it’s gone. Let me know in the comments below what sales you have been shopping lately and some of your favorite pieces purchased. See you all in my next post.

My Commute Playlist

My 45-minute train ride to and from Grand Central Station consists of napping, thinking, and writing blog posts all while listening to music. I get through the not so fun commute with a little help from Spotify music. Just like not having one style of fashion I enjoy wearing, I don’t have one style of music I enjoy listening to. I listen to all sorts of genres of music, like rap, pop, alternative, and techno. However, the music I tend to listen to on the train are songs that will pump me up in the morning for the new day ahead of me and help me unwind on my way back home after a long day.

1dd18e3b5476b24eb426919ebe76a308

Beautiful Day– U2

This is a great morning song. When all I want to do is head home and get right into my bed I know that each day is a gift and I am so lucky that every day I get the chance to be in the city I love. The lyrics, “it’s a beautiful day don’t let it get away,” inspire me to look at all the positives throughout my day.

67b3b302e230374c2fe3825924851f99

The Anthem– Good Charlotte

A great pump up song. This song just makes me want to dance and sing in the aisles of the train. However, to avoid stares from people on the train, I just head bob and lip synch from my seat, even though people still stare. I guess they don’t know good music.

Wait Til You See My Smile– Alicia Keys

This song goes out to all those people who have turned their back on me for no reason, took advantage of me, or simply did not believe in me. This song is so beautiful and so inspiring. Just like the lyrics say, to all those people who “love to see you down” prove them otherwise.

90bdaadf43ca57bd891025e0cb36f13f

Girls Chase Boys– Ingrid Michaelson

Love the catchy beat of this song. Plus, it perfectly describes the struggle with love. Girls like to play hard to get and then boys like to play their own games; however, the only thing this leads to is miscommunication and chaos. Why does falling in love have to be so complicated?

Long Way Home- The Goo Goo Dolls

In my 21 years on this earth, I learned that life’s a journey, filled with many ups and downs. Unfortunately, things aren’t always handed to you on a silver platter. Instead, you have to work for what you want, even if it means going through tough times. I find this song super relatable especially when I’m entering the “adult world” and trying to build a name for myself, but no matter how hard it gets “you can’t let go…”

No Money– Galantis

If it wasn’t for me spending time discovering new playlists, I would have never of found this song. Such a catchy and upbeat song, making it perfect for the commute to and from the city.

Love Yourself vs. F*ck Your Self– Yo Preston feat- Kelly Kiara

So happy I found this cover because it’s genius. I always get annoyed when I listen to Love Yourself by the Biebs because why is it always the girl’s fault in the relationship. I guess guys are perfect. Well Kelly Kiara thinks otherwise and I totally agree!

Ribs– Lorde

Ever since the song Royals I have been a huge fan of Lorde. I love her music. Ribs is a great song to play when you just want to close your eyes take a deep breath and relax

Send Your Love To Your New Lover– Adele

I mean of course you need some Adele on your playlist. This song has become my anthem. It’s so relatable plus the memorable lyrics and beat has me singing along. Hands down, one of my favorite Adele songs.

Pursuit of Happiness– Kid Cudi

If you need a pump up song for your morning or when you are dragging in the afternoon, this song will get your blood pumping, heart racing, and head bobbing. Not only does it have a great beat but a great meaning behind the song…live a life that makes you happy.

Enjoyed reading this post? If so, don’t worry I still have more songs in my commute playlist that I want to share with you all. Let me know in the comments below some of the favorite songs you like to listen to on your to way work, heading home from work, when you need some motivation, or even when you are preparing for a night out. I love adding new songs to my playlist. After all I’m on the train twice a day for 45 minutes, 4 days a week, do the math because I’m too tired. With that being said, I need more songs, so ready, set, go….comment.

That’s So 70s

One of the many things I learned from spending two summers interning in New York City with prestigious fashion companies is that trends like to repeat themselves. Every season it seems like fashion trends in a particular decade come back again. Almost like the expression history repeats itself, it seems like fashion does too.

IMG_2827 1

IMG_2846

This season is all about the 70s with the flared jeans, the 80s with patches (click here to see how I completely transformed a denim jacket with a few patches) and you can’t forget chokers for that 90s grunge. I always yell at my mom for not keeping any of her clothes from back in the day. She always responds by saying she didn’t know that 20/30 years later those trends would be huge.

IMG_2816 1

IMG_2824 1

But luckily my mom and dad always share what they wore and what was popular back in the day. And when their memory about a certain trend is foggy the Internet is the best place to find inspiration. So keep on reading to time travel back to the 70s and embrace the flared jean trend.

IMG_2829 Who else has been going bananas over the big Zara sale? It doesn’t help that I have to pass by a Zara every time I walk to the train station. So I’ve been shopping at Zara a lot so get ready for more posts featuring my Zara goodies.

IMG_2840

I always wanted to experiment with flared denim so when I found a pair of high-waisted crop flared jeans at Zara for an awesome price I knew this was my chance. I don’t regret this purchase because these flared jeans totally take me out of my skinny jean comfort zone.

IMG_2912

IMG_2879 1

For a top to pair with my flared jeans, I knew I wanted something colorful. Although this top is not entirely 70s I can totally see someone from that time period wear this top. I found this shirt at Zara and it was such a bargain. Of course I tucked in a little portion of my blouse to show off the high-waisted feature of my jeans.

IMG_2852

IMG_2857

One style of shoes my mom always talks about is Candies. I heard from a pretty reliable source that they were the hit thing in the 70s. I’m so happy I got my hands on a pair of Candies platform wedges. In my opinion when you wear flared pants you need a heel for a boost of height to really exaggerate the flare.

IMG_2858

IMG_2866

As for arm candy, I am keeping it simple and just wearing my favorite Hollis Hayes elephant charm bracelet.

IMG_2863

Maybe it’s just me but whenever I wear my Forever 21 round sunglasses I feel like a hippie so I knew this pair of sunglasses would complete my 70s look.

Thanks for time traveling with me and reading about my 70s inspired look. Let me know in the comments below if you are loving the 70s trend or can do away with it. See you next time!

Sizzlin’ Summer (Dress) + Link Up

What’s summer without a collection of your favorite summer dresses hanging in your closet?  In the fashion dictionary, a summer dress has no true definition.  A summer dress can be pretty much anything you want.  Long or short with patterns and texture like denim, lace, crochet, floral, gingham, geometric, and the list goes on.  Anyone can find their perfect summer dress.  A dress so light, so easy to style, but yet captures your true personality.

IMG_2604

IMG_2620

I know two fabulous bloggers who really know how to rock summer dresses.  I am so excited to be part of Michelle (Michelle’s Pa(i)ge) and Ana’s (Northwest Blonde) weekly link up post.  Our last link up together was our post all about boho styles.  To refresh your memory click here and don’t forget to check out Michelle and Ana’s blog for more style inspiration.

Keep reading to see one of my many summer dresses that has been on repeat.

IMG_2627

So the star of this look is of course my summer dress.  I am obsessed with my new tie-dye dress from Zara.  I love the warm colors, resembling a desert scene.  And now with my blonde hair this has become my go-to color palette.

IMG_2607

IMG_2599

I believe shirt dresses are meant to be belted to highlight your waist and give the dress more shape.  You can’t go wrong with a simple, skinny, brown braided belt from H&M.  In my opinion, even if you don’t think you need a belt in your wardrobe, everyone should have a brown and black belt for those fashion moments when you are looking for something to complete your outfit.

IMG_2640

IMG_2633

Although this outfit is far from dull, I thought I needed to add something more to this look.  As I was going through my closet, I dug up this fringe scarf I bought at a local boutique.  It is one of those pieces I just had to buy in the moment, but sadly rarely wear it.  So I thought today was perfect to experiment with this fringe scarf and put it to good use.

IMG_2587

IMG_2586

For shoes, I am breaking in my new strappy, wedges from Charlotte Russe.  Although uncomfortable the first time I wore them, I know I will be pairing these detailed wedges with many of my favorite summer looks.

IMG_2611

No outfit is complete without an elephant so I am wearing my new Hollis Hayes bracelet.  The coloring of the beads and charm perfectly matches my dress.  Check out more of their fabulous bracelets here.

IMG_2637

Lastly, what’s a summer look without your favorite pair of sunglasses?  So I am wearing my pink framed glasses from The Loft.

IMG_2591

So that concludes another summer style post and weekly link up post with Michelle and Ana.  To be honest, I can’t think of a good way to end this post without it sounding awkward, so I will just leave you with this.  Go ahead, go shopping for your perfect summer dress and don’t be afraid to put your favorite dress on repeat because that is what summer is all about.

Boho Chic + Link Up

IMG_2305 1

Boho chic is defined as a type of style being influenced by bohemian and hippie looks. Think floral prints, warm colors, fringe, round sunglasses, flowing pants and skirts, and so on. Look to celebs like Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, Vanessa Hudgens, and Nicole Richie for inspiration.

I am so excited to be the co-host of Michelle (Michelle’s Pa(i)ge) and Ana’s (Northwest Blonde) weekly link up post. It’s an honor to be part of this fun theme because it is so me. I love the boho style and these ladies certainly know how to dress, so make sure to check them out.

IMG_2309 1

IMG_2300 1

I always feel fashion forward when I wear flared pants, especially with a wild and colorful pattern. I have to admit, I always feel like people on the street are going to mistaken these pants for pajamas, but then I think these are way to stylish to be pajamas. I love my flowing pants from Target, especially the bold print and colors. I feel like any hippie would be caught wearing these pants because they are comfy, trendy, and perfect for any free spirit.

IMG_2356

I kept the top simple because what could compete with these pants. I am wearing just a basic white tank from Forever 21. Since the weather is still not warm enough to expose bare shoulders, I decided to wear my favorite light, crochet cardigan from Apricot Lane. In my opinion, every boho look needs a little crochet.

IMG_2313 1

Whenever I wear flared pants, I like to wear a sandal that has a little wedge to them to give me a little extra height and also to keep my pants from dragging on the ground. For shoes, I looked no further than to my lace up wedge sandals from Call it Spring.

IMG_2349

Lastly for accessories, I had to wear my favorite Forever 21 gold elephant pendant necklace (no shock there). Also no boho outfit is complete without your favorite pair of round sunglasses. My Forever 21 round sunglasses were certainly the icing on my (boho) cake. Who else thinks I am ready to hit Coachella next year? California here I come.

The sun is shining, the weather is getting warmer, the summer is almost here, so what better season than to try out the boho trend. Link your posts that fit the boho theme and be sure to visit blogs for some inspiration.IMG_2348IMG_2345

Hot Mess

IMG_2248

Last week was crazy; I finished my junior year of college and turned 21, all on the same day. I think I had one to many margaritas on my birthday because I am still recovering from the festivities. Not to mention that ending a school year means packing up all my stuff at school and moving back home. My room these last couple of days perfectly describes my life as messy and in shambles. But just like I can get my room all nice and tidy, I am starting to get in the groove of being home, getting back to blogging, and preparing for another summer working in New York City.

IMG_2250

Everyone always tells me that I have my life together and I like to think I do, but there are still days where I wake up frazzled, overwhelmed with ideas and stressed to make sure each day is productive, so hey if I am going to be a mess, might as well call me a hot mess. My life motto there and it should be yours too. Remember routines and schedules can make life boring, so whenever you can embrace that “hot mess” side of you, it will make life more interesting. Ok, enough of me being a life coach, let me get back to what I do best, sharing my style.

IMG_2285 1

Linen is making a comeback this summer season. It only makes sense because linen is a lightweight material to keep you cool on those hot summer days. I love my Old Navy linen cropped pants. These pants score extra points in the comfort department. Plus, I love the dull green color because in my opinion that color is considered neutral, so these pants are super versatile.

IMG_2276 1

As soon as I purchased these linen pants, I knew I wanted to pair them up with a simple white t-shirt, but a solid white t-shirt can be dangerous, hello stains. So I opted for a cream and black striped three quarter sleeve from Madewell.

IMG_2271

The Circus collection by Sam Edelman was designed for me. All their quirky and fun pieces perfectly describe my personality, so of course I can’t stop wearing my new slip on sneakers. These shoes are sassy and definitely make a statement. Slip on these shoes on those days when you want the world to know you are not only a mess, but a hot mess, emphasis on the hot.

IMG_2263

Next for accessories, I always have to wear some sort of elephant pendant necklace and the best place to find these types of necklaces are at Forever 21. These necklaces instantly transform your outfits.

IMG_2292 1

Speaking of transforming outfits, I am obsessed with my Firmoo sunglasses. Head over to firmoo.com for discounted eyeglasses and sunglasses, featuring all different frames, shapes, and sizes. All the glasses are inexpensive, high quality, and of course stylish. How cool are my mirrored sunglasses? Nobody can see where I am looking, so I can hard-core people watch (HAHA). I also love the color of the lenses, all great colors for the summer; the perfect pair of glasses to throw in your beach bag.

Summer is here and adventures wait. One of my adventures includes making my blog the best one-stop site for all things fashion, beauty, and lifestyle topics. Let me know down below some of your adventures or goals this summer. Talk to you all very soon!
