My New York City Apartment Tour

Hello everyone! This blog post is way overdue.  For those of you who don’t know, in March, I followed my dreams and heart and moved to New York City.  And for those who already knew that because you follow me on Instagram and keep up to date with all my city adventures, it has been a wonderful past couple of months as I make one of my favorite cities my new home.

I knew once I signed the lease for my studio apartment on the Upper West Side, I had the exciting chance to decorate my new space the way I wanted and of course when it was ready I would to document it here on LivForStyle.  After three months getting comfortable in my new space, I’m ready to show off my new spot, so keep on reading how I decorated my little New York City apartment and made my studio my home away from real home back in Connecticut.

My whole experience finding the perfect place in the city that offered great amenities, close to work, in a safe and fun neighborhood all while keeping within my budget was a positive experience thanks to a very helpful realtor.  I looked all over the city for the right place including the Murray Hill area, the Hell’s Kitchen area, the Midtown West area, and finally the Upper West Side, which obviously I fell in love with.

Side note, I’m trying to make this post all about my apartment tour, but couldn’t help to mention a few tidbits about my moving experience, but let me know if you want a dedicated post on my apartment hunt and my move.

Anyway, I’m in love with my apartment due to the fact I am close to bustling Lincoln center and beautiful Central Park.  In New York City, you certainly pay for location rather than space, but since I’m living alone, a studio space was perfect and quite frankly it’s the perfect size for me considering with my work life and social life I’m never home.

When you walk into my studio, this is the overview.  A studio is pretty much an open space, so your bedroom is in your kitchen, your kitchen is in your bedroom, your dining area is in your kitchen and bedroom, and your lounging area is in your kitchen, bedroom, and dining area, if that all made sense and then of course you have a separate, closed off bathroom.

When I was deciding on the motif for my new apartment, I wanted to focus on pastel colors to make my whole area feel airy, fresh, and light.  Plus, the light-colored hardwood floors and light gray colored cabinets also inspired me to follow a soft neutral color palette.

So, first my bed is a queen-sized bed which has been an adjustment because I’ve been sleeping in a twin bed all of my life LOL.  I decided to rent my furniture from CORT Furniture, which was an amazing experience.  CORT Furniture offers a vast amount of furniture options to rent, the delivery process was super easy, and I only pay a small monthly fee for the furniture, making it super affordable.  I decided to go down the rental route, so I wouldn’t be stuck with the furniture if I decide to move to a different apartment or city next year.  I picked out this gray headboard and queen-sized mattress from CORT Furniture.

I then accessorized my bed with this beautiful comforter from Walmart.  I’m still in awe that this comforter is from Walmart and was only $70 for the comforter, pillow shams, and throw pillows.  I love the beautiful blush and moss green colors that perfectly go with the color scheme for my apartment.  I also found this gray fleece blanket from Walmart that I drape over my bed for an extra pop of gray color and for warmth on those chillier nights.

Next to my bed you will find this small night stand with two compartments for storage. Both the night stand and lamp are from the Christmas Tree Store.

Since, I have such a small space, I didn’t want to overwhelm my walls with tons of art work, so I kept it simple with three small photos above my bed.  First, is a fun fashion themed calendar to keep track of my busy life.  Next, was the last piece I found for my apartment and in my opinion has tied together my whole space.  Yes, a small little photo can have that much of an impact because it features one of my favorite quotes, “Don’t let today be a waste of makeup.”  Then, placed off to the side is another great piece that includes all of the major streets and my personal favorite streets in New York City.  On the other wall by my bed is my beautiful, black and white elephant canvas I received as a gift from, the Founder and Creative Director of Boy Meets Girl, after I finished my fashion internship back in my junior year of college. This elephant has been in all my apartments back at school, so it only made sense to bring it with me on this next adventure.

Another piece of furniture I rented from CORT Furniture is this small, plush chair.  I decided to maximize as much space as possible and found that if I rented a love seat or couch it would take up too much space, so this little chair is perfect and super comfortable.  I call this corner my blogging nook because I find myself sitting on this chair with my laptop, looking out the window and feeling inspired to work on my blog and brainstorm new ideas.  To match the gray chair, I hung these three small canvas pictures above.  I always love a good black and white fashion sketch and an inspiring quote to get those creative ideas going.

One of the many things that sold me on this apartment was these two large windows.  Although, it was a little more pricey to have an apartment with two large windows looking out onto the street, it was worth it because I get so much sunlight and enjoy looking out the window and seeing all the people and cute doggies walking by.  I also love how the windows feature these large window sills which allows me extra storage for my jewelry, books, and little trinkets.

Naturally, being a fashion blogger in my new spot I wanted a floor length mirror to take some mirror outfit snaps and to make sure my outfit is always on point.  This beautiful mirror with a gold/silver finish is surprisingly from Walmart, which was also a great deal!

One of my biggest fears moving into the city was the closet space because I feel like I have more clothes than the average person and my wardrobe is always growing, but my place has this amazing closet that has enough space to fit all my clothes and shoes.  Plus, above my closet I have this extra storage option that is great for storing things I don’t use every day.  I always keep my closet door open because I’m like Carrie Bradshaw when she said…”‘I like my money where I can see it – hanging in my closet.’”

I lucked out with this newly renovated kitchen with all stainless steel appliances and these beautiful gray cabinets.  I really didn’t have to add too much to the kitchen except a colorful dish towel, a foot stool for those high cabinets, and of course my fruit basket to hang my bananas and store my avocados or whatever fruit I buy that week.

I‘ve been super proud of myself for cooking most of my dinners at home, which has saved tons of money and I wanted a little dining nook because the thought of eating on my bed every night grossed me out . I found this cute table and chair set from you guessed it Walmart.  It’s the perfect size.  Although, this dining set is super cute it was a pain to put together, the second chair was defective and instead of wasting hours trying to fix it or return the whole set, I decided to just keep the one chair, because after all it’s really just me sitting at the table and if I do any entertaining most likely we will be going out to dinner.  Also, since this is my “dining room” I decided to hang side by side these two fun wine themed photos and of course an arrangement of succulents for the center piece.

It can’t be a full apartment tour without a peek into my bathroom, so here we have a newly renovated bathroom with sleek and modern finishes and a good amount of space and cabinets for all my beauty and shower essentials.

So, I think that’s a wrap on my New York City studio tour.  I was so afraid because my space is small that I wouldn’t have anything to show and talk about, but looking at how much I wrote above, I guess I had more to share than I realized.  I hope everyone enjoyed reading this and taking a peek inside my new space in the city.  I couldn’t be more thankful of the fact that I have turned my dreams, since I was a little girl, to live in the city now my reality.  For more of my New York City adventure, make sure you follow me on Instagram (@livforstyle).  Talk to you all in my new post!

Block seven, house number one. This is where me and my three best friends will spend our junior year of college. These past few weeks have been filled with laughter, music blasting, some schoolwork being done, and of course decorating.

Since this was my third year moving onto campus, I was more excited than nervous. Every year it becomes easier and easier and I owe it all to Bed Bath and Beyond. Thanks to Bed Bath and Beyond’s college checklist college shopping was stress free and more fun this year.

The checklist had all the essentials from Twin XL sheets, stylish comforters, lamps, décor, dorm appropriate kitchen essentials, all making this year’s back to college shopping a little less overwhelming.

For the most part, my back to college shopping was done in one day with the help of their checklist and a personal shopper to guide me through the enormous back to school section at Bed Bath and Beyond.

My friends and I are obsessed with our townhouse. Our Bed Bath and Beyond items really makes our place feel like home. We love our house so much that we want to share our house with the blogging world.

I was inspired to write this post after watching a rerun of MTV Cribs. So read this post, like you are watching an episode of MTV Cribs. It’s time to get started.

Welcome to our new home Townhouse 71 or we like to call it, Townhouse “Seventy Fun.” In today’s episode, I will be showcasing our fabulous kitchen, common area, and my bedroom. Follow me.

The four of us feel like grown-ups this year because now that we have a full kitchen we don’t have to rely on the cafeteria. Although, it is still early in the year, we have been experimenting with cooking different meals. By shopping at Bed Bath and Beyond, I was able to purchase all the kitchen essentials to cook or bake anything. My Rubbermaid® Flex & Seal 26 piece storage set has come in handy to keep food fresh and store any leftovers. The best thing about living close to home is having my mom bring up some of my favorite home cooked meals. I can rely on my tupperware to hold all my yummy food. Best part is that this set includes lids that snap together with the container so you can neatly organize your tupperware and always find what you are looking for. My Wilton® Round Cake Pan and Cookie Sheets have been used every night. They can be used to cook pretty much ANYTHING, like baked chicken, fish, French fries, cookies, and so on. They have a nonstick finish and are good quality, so I am certain they will last all year. It’s the little things we almost forgot to buy, like serving spoons, spatulas, soup ladles, and other kitchen utensils. The 7-piece kitchen utensil set from Bed Bath & Beyond includes all the kitchen essentials we need to cook up some gourmet meals.

Our common area is where the four of us will spend countless hours hanging out, watching television, and acting like goofballs. It is also the area we like to spend time with our friends and take a break from the stress of college. Easily, the common room is my favorite area of the house. It is the best decorated room, all thanks to Bed Bath & Beyond. Our Folding Club Chair is super soft and comfy. Whenever we have friends over, you can find our friends chilling in this chair. It’s a great addition to the room and provides extra seating. The basic black color goes with our room décor and I believe the chair makes our room more “homey.”

For extra storage and our TV stand, we use the Real Simple® 9-cube storage unit. The basic white color allows us to decorate with pattern cloth bins for storage. We keep everything in this storage unit, such as computer chargers, board games, coloring books, and so on; the perfect item to reduce clutter.

My roommates and I are constantly on the go. We all have busy schedules and sometimes it’s hard to keep track of everything. Our Wallpops® Peel and Stick Dry Erase Dot Decal is where we leave each other notes, post our schedules, inspiring quotes, and other important info. We decided to go with red for a pop of color in the common room.

My roommates and I have been friends for three years, so of course we have tons of memories and what better way to remember all our crazy times than with photos. I love the Umbra® Hangit Photo Display which displays all our photos on a giant clothesline display. It brightens up the room and is a convo starter. We always find ourselves looking at the photos and saying remember when…

Last but not least is my bedroom. I hardly spend anytime in my bedroom. For me it’s only a place to sleep, but that doesn’t mean that it should not be well decorated. The favorite part of my room has to be my multi-colored floral printed comforter. My Fanfare® 4-piece comforter set makes a statement on my side of my room. It is so vibrant and eye-catching. Certainly, the turquoise, coral, and purple colors brighten up my room. When I need to take a break and relax, I always count on my faux suede backrest. It is the perfect addition to my bed and the coral color perfectly matches.

Next to my bed, you will find a Way Basics® White Quad decorated with turquoise cloth bins. This storage unit acts as my bed stand and the place where I store all the essentials, like school supplies, medicine, lotion, mouthwash, nail polish remover, and so much more.

Like I mentioned above, I love photos because they are the best way to relive memories, so of course I had to include one of the Umbra® Hangit Photo Displays in my room. I’m still in shock with how many photos this piece can hold. Just being in school for a couple weeks now, my roommates and me have taken tons of photos so I can’t wait to add more recent photos to my display.

Although my laundry basket is tucked away in the closet of our bathroom, I still wanted a laundry basket to match my color scheme. I hate doing laundry, but this coral colored pop up mesh laundry basket makes the chore of doing laundry a little better.

So this concludes another episode of my version of MTV Cribs college edition. Townhouse 71 is my home away from home. I wouldn’t want to spend my junior year any other way. I am so thankful to be living with my three best friends in a beautiful townhouse decorated by Bed Bath & Beyond. So far, junior year is off to a great start, but many adventures still await.

This post is sponsored Bed Bath & Beyond. All opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting the brands that make LivForStyle possible!

My sophomore year of college ended three weeks ago and I’m home for the summer. Even though the semester just ended, I’m looking forward to getting back to school in the fall for the start of my junior year. Don’t get me wrong, I have an exciting summer ahead with a lot of great things lined up, but I miss the fun of being away at school and of course my friends. I am looking forward to my third year in college. I’ve enrolled in some interesting classes for the first semester and I can’t wait to share an on-campus townhouse with three of my best friends.

Since February, we knew we would spend our junior year living together in a townhouse. Townhouse living is such an upgrade from the traditional dorm set up of the past two years. We will have a full kitchen, two bathrooms, a common area, and a dining room. The best part is that all four of us will be living under the same roof. I can’t wait to come home to my friends after a long day of classes, have some fun, laugh our heads off, and just be all around silly together.

Once we knew we had the townhouse we started to jot down some decorating ideas and color schemes for the common area. The four of us are huge fans of quotes so we plan to fill our walls with canvases and posters that include inspirational quotes to help us get through the challenges of junior year. We also want to decorate our walls with pictures of us from the semester to keep our memories alive and relive our crazy adventures.

Many of you might be thinking, Liv, why are you already starting to plan your townhouse months before you move in? I’m happy to announce that I am now a brand ambassador for the interior design company, Graham & Brown. This couldn’t come at a better time. With Graham & Brown’s help our townhouse will be awesome. This also gives me an exciting opportunity to showcase my love of interior design on my blog. In fact, one of my guilty pleasures is watching HGTV all night.

I’ve been browsing the Graham & Brown site and I’m amazed at the extent of their wall décor and other home accessories. I’ve created an inspiration board of all the items that would be perfect for our townhouse. My roommates and I have decided to fill our walls with lots of bright and mood inspiring color and quotes.

Graham & Brown offers a huge selection of wall décor featuring motivating quotes. I chose two canvases with a chalkboard background with pops of vibrant colors and of course an inspirational saying. I think our walls need even more color so I chose two more canvases featuring a beautiful, colorful floral print. I mean whose mood isn’t instantly boosted after looking at these prints?

Lastly, since all four of us have been friends since freshman year, we have been through a lot together. I decided the collage photo frame would be perfect for us to add our own individual trinkets and photos to celebrate our friendship.

After sending the pictures of the wall décor, the roommates approved. I love creating these inspiration boards because it helps with my creativity. If you’re looking to get creative and inspired then check out the Graham & Brown website for all your decorating needs. Let me know about some of your favorite items. If you love interior design, like me, it is fun to design your dream home.
