The Best Dressed At The Grammy’s 2017

If there was any award show that I could go to and strut down the red carpet it would be the Grammy’s. This award show is filled with tons of music, celebs, and of course fashion.  To me, the Grammy’s is the chance to experiment with style and wear something unique and funky.  So I love when I see my favorite celebs take some fashion risks on the red carpet.  Keep on scrolling to read all about my favorite looks from last night’s big event.

Solange Knowles

Solange Knowles dazzled in a metallic gold dress by Gucci.  The Knowles family can do no wrong like did you watch Beyoncé’s performance? I was left speechless.  Anyway, back to Solange’s dress.  I like how her dress features some of the hottest trends this season like the beautiful pleated design and exaggerated sleeve.  Her dress is glamorous but at the same time playing around with different shapes and structures.

Katy Perry

I can’t get over Katy Perry’s new hair.  I love the platinum blonde color.  She is totally jumping on the bandwagon that blondes do have more fun.  To be honest, at first Katy’s dress did not make my best dressed list, but after looking more closely at her Tom Ford dress, I fell in love.  Again this is the perfect dress for the Grammy’s because it is fun and different, mixing sparkles and feathers.  I think the pink and rose gold colors really made her blonde hair pop.  The only adjustments I would make to this dress is having the feathers start higher up on the waist to avoid an awkward silhouette.

Paris Jackson

Paris Jackson was the big breakout star at the Grammy’s.  Everyone was amazed by her beautiful red carpet look.  I loved the crisscross detail of her Balmain dress.  Not to mention the beautiful jewel toned colors with the perfect amount of sparkle.  The slits and cutouts of her dress created a beautiful illusion that leaves you asking is it a jumpsuit or a dress?

Laverne Cox

Sigh, if only I could be this fierce. I am obsessed with Laverne Cox’s Bryan Hearns leather dress number.  This is what the Grammy’s is about, taking risks and she certainly knows how to nail the edgy look.  I loved how the dress features that cage detail from top to bottom to show off the perfect amount of skin, while leaving a little to the imagination.  Also, did you see her eye makeup?  Her bold, graphic smokey eyes with some jewel appliques outlining her lashes was just a work of art.  She nailed her look from head to toe.

Lea Michelle

I was not aware of Lea Michelle’s beautiful halter crop top and skirt duo by Roberto Cavalli until I was reading online articles recapping the fashion of last night.  Some celebs chose to expose extra skin with a high slit or a lot of cleavage, but I like how Lea picked a high waisted skirt and crop top to expose a portion of her torso.  For me, this look was perfect for the Grammy’s, being sexy and fun.  I also liked how her look featured a dark, lacy floral pattern for an edgy take on the usual feminine print.

Halsey

Halsey, I totally love your tribute to the 90s with your silky, shiny cobalt blue track suit by Christian Wijnants.  Just like Halsey said on the red carpet, sometimes you don’t feel like wearing a dress and I couldn’t agree more.  I admire your choice to be different and show off this sporty look.  She is totally channeling the popular pajama trend this season, but of course this is one pair of sexy pajamas.  She really trusted her boob tape to keep her from having a wardrobe malfunction.  Not to mention she finished off her killer look with a long, silver diamond chain.  Now this is fashion.

Lady Gaga

Take that you body shamers! Lady Gaga had no problem standing up to all those who criticized her body at the Super Bowl when she confidently paraded down the red carpet in barely nothing.  She was ready to rock and roll in her all black, leather two piece assemble by Alex Ulichny finished with fishnet stockings and over the knee leather boots.  She was not afraid to show lots of skin or under boob and because she is Lady Gaga she nailed this look.  Her aviator sunglasses, pink hair, and bold lips totally gave her the rock star vibe.  And she totally lived up to those expectations when she performed on stage with Metallica and proceeded to crowd surf.  You go Gaga!

And that’s a wrap for my roundup of the best dressed at the Grammy’s. Once again, the Grammy’s wow me every year. The talent at this year’s show was incredible. If you need me I will be re-watching Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, and Ed Sheeran’s performance over and over again. Talk to you all soon!

The Best And Worst Dressed At The Golden Globes 2016

Last year, my very first post on my blog was my round up of the best and worst dressed from the Golden Globes, so it is tradition to share my thoughts on this year’s fashion at the Golden Globes.

My fashion senses were tingling on Sunday while watching the 73rd Golden Globes Award Show.  Next to Christmas, my favorite time of the year has to be award season.  Nothing beats watching the celebrities strut on the red carpet while wearing elaborate gowns.

For the most part, every celebrity stunned in their designer dresses and set a high expectation for future award shows.  I noticed a few popular trends at the Golden Globes, including capes, cut outs, hues of reds and pinks, plunging necklines, and pockets.

Someday I hope to be one of the correspondents reporting from the red carpet, but for right now I’ll use my blog to share my fashion do’s and don’ts from the red carpet.  Keep on reading to see which celebrities hit a homerun when it came to their style and which celebrities should have reconsidered their dress choice.

Best Dressed

Lady Gaga- After seeing Lady Gaga perform at Madison Square Garden a few years ago, Lady Gaga will forever have my heart.  I am a huge Lady Gaga fan and so happy she took home her first Golden Globe. She looked outstanding in her black velvet Versace dress.  Her dress featured a sweetheart neckline and a fitted corset, giving her an hourglass shape.  She completed her glamorous look with of course diamonds, a curly up do, and lots of lashes.  I was so happy to see Lady Gaga choose a more sophisticated look, instead of wearing a meat dress like she did at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards.

Amy Adams- I was so glad to see some color on the red carpet.  I am a huge fan of Amy Adam’s daring blood orange Versace gown.  The bold orange color with the perfect amount of sparkle looked beautiful with her hair color and skin tone.  After seeing her dress, I really hope this orange shade becomes a huge trend for upcoming award shows and the spring season.

Laverne Cox- Laverne Cox looked fierce in her pure white, figure hugging dress by Elizabeth Kennedy.  I am a huge fan of her classic look.  Sometimes simplicity is the way to go when it comes to the red carpet.  I love how she accessorized with emerald colored jewelry and a vampy lip color. Perfection!

Jenna Dewan Tatum- Jenna Dewan Tatum’s dress resembled a starry night sky.  The deep blue dress embellished with sequins is by Zuhair Murad and certainly made a statement on the red carpet.  I love her dress because it features two of the hottest trends this season, the plunging neckline and pockets. Plus, every red carpet needs some sparkle.

Olivia Wilde- Olivia Wilde can do no wrong when it comes to fashion.  Her form fitting, burgundy, sequins dress by Michael Kors, featured a risky low neckline.  I appreciate her choice to accessorize with a statement necklace that complimented the deep red color of her dress.  I also loved her eggplant and burgundy shimmery eye shadow, which is a colorful take on the typical smokey eye.

Jaimie Alexander- If I had to only choose one best dressed celebrity, my award would have to go to Jaimie Alexander.  Her dress designed by Genny was stunning.  I am obsessed with the rich jewel toned emerald color, deep v neckline, and the pockets.  The pattern of her dress is so abstract and eye-catching. Also her smokey eye is on point and really makes her eyes pop.  Perfection from head to toe.

Worst Dressed

Cate Blanchett- What is up with this dress? There is just way too much going on.  Cate Blanchett’s dress by Givenchy features silk, sheer paneling, and fringe.  I don’t know where to look.  Plus the pastel pink color is just wrong.  Better luck next time.

Katy Perry- Between the Bump It in her hair and this tight dress by Prada, Katy Perry tops my worst dressed list.  I really hate the color of her dress because it reminds me of a Pepto Bismol bottle . She better bring her “A” game to the Grammy’s because her look at the Golden Globes was anything but fabulous.

Natalie Dormer- Natalie Dormer’s J. Mendel dress would have been better if it did not include the awkward off the shoulder look and black neckpiece.  Awkward, undone, and mismatched are a few words I like to use to describe her look.

Regina King- Regina King’s dress looks more like a Halloween costume than a Golden Globes gown. Her Krikor Jabotian dress features a white cape and chunky gold sequins.  Her dress is outrageous!  I never thought this was possible, but there is way to much sparkle and sequins.

Rooney Mara- I am all for fashion risks and unique looks, but Rooney Mara’s Alexander McQueen dress leaves me speechless and not in a good way.  First, the pale pink color blends in with her skin tone, making her look washed out.  Plus the ruffles of her dress look like her dress went through a shredder, which is never a good look.

Kate Hudson- The only thing on point is Kate Hudson’s abs.  Other than that, I do not love her Michael Kors crop top and matching skirt outfit.  The nude sparkly color washes her out.  Plus that random piece of fabric around her neck just confuses me.

And that concludes my 2016 Golden Globes fashion recap. Stay tuned for more best and worst dressed posts. Let me know in the comments below what celebrity looks were your favorite or were questionable.

The Makeup Show- NYC

IMG_8655On Sunday, May 3rd, I was able to take a much-needed break from studying for finals and took a trip to New York City. Most of my adventures to NYC are special, but this trip was extra special because I was attending my first ever The Makeup Show with my best friend, Christina, by my side.

IMG_8493

IMG_8556Coffee in hand, we both boarded the train at 9 A.M. and arrived in the city an hour later. The entire train ride, it felt like I had ants in my pants, or in my case my romper. I was so excited not knowing what to expect. Although this was my first time attending The Makeup Show, this was not my first makeup trade show. Many of my readers know that I have been to IMATS (International Makeup Artist Trade Show) three times, so one thing I knew I could count on would be cosmetics galore and meeting countless cosmetic lovers at The Makeup Show.

We really lucked out with the weather on Sunday. It was a beautiful, sunny day with temperatures in the mid 70s. I took advantage of the warm weather by wearing a romper, wedges, and sunglasses. Rompers are my must-have for the spring and summer seasons. I decided to wear my new floral romper from Target. I love the black lace detailing on top coupled with the bright colored floral pattern on the bottom. I knew my romper needed some extra pizazz, so naturally I chose a statement necklace.IMG_8614IMG_8603
This necklace from Apricot Lane was the perfect size because it didn’t take away from the romper. Plus, the necklace was shiny and reflected the colors in my romper.

IMG_8611For shoes, I broke out my favorite Steve Madden wedges. I totally chose style over comfort  as the blisters on my feet attest to, but it was worth it because they completed my look beautifully. Lastly, I couldn’t forget a pair of sunglasses to cope with the glare of the New York sidewalks. These black cat-eye shaped glasses from Forever 21 make a great addition to any outfit.IMG_8618IMG_8612IMG_8605

Christina and I spent all morning and afternoon at The Makeup Show.We explored the venue and visited the different makeup tables. We made multiple visits to some of our favoritesThose that garnered a second or third look included Kat Von D, Lit Cosmetics, Nars, and Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics. I picked up a few necessities like my favorite Kat Von D liquid eyeliner and a beautiful Nars eye shadow duo. I stepped out of my comfort zone and experimented with beautiful glitter eye shadows from Lit Cosmetics and Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics. I can’t wait to put together beautiful summer looks with my new products, so stay tuned for upcoming posts.

IMG_8577IMG_8514It was wonderful to see Christina experience her first ever makeup trade show. I was so happy to share her excitement over the new makeup brands she discovered, especially the new Mac eye shadow she picked up. I am so glad Christina is part of the LivForStyle team. We’ve incorporated her love for photography with some great shots in this blog post. Christina is not only my college roommate and best friend, but she is a big supporter and valuable contributor to the LivforStyle website.IMG_8541IMG_8532

The Makeup Show lived up to my expectations and more. It was a great day filled with makeup, networking, and friendship. Special days like these are what continue to inspire and motivate me to make the LivForStyle site your go-to site for everything fashion, beauty, and lifestyle.

Christina and I laughed and smiled on the train all the way back to school. We didn’t want to have to get back to the “reality” of studying for finals and wished the day in NYC could last forever. It was nice to feellike a “press rep” for the day with my best friend by my side.

IMG_8657Come back Friday for a special post. Christina will be my guest blogger, telling you all about her experience at The Makeup Show.

The Best And Worst Dressed At The Grammy’s 2015

My Sunday was full of studying because my statistic and psychology professor decided to schedule our first exam on the same day. To say I was stressed is an under statement. I had to spend the majority of my afternoon and night studying, which meant I couldn’t spend all night watching the 2015 Grammy’s. I always enjoy watching this award show, because it recognizes great talent in the music industry.

Since I couldn’t spend my Sunday night watching the Grammy’s, I decided to only watch the red carpet special. I deserved a 2-hour study break, right? It was well worth it because watching the stars walk down the red carpet is my favorite part of any awards show.

Once again, most of the stars strutted down the red carpet in bedazzled and embellished dresses. Just like with every major award shows, I have picked out the best and worst looks. So keep on reading to see who made my list.

Best Dressed

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Gwen Stefani- Hands down, Gwen Stefani was my favorite look of the night. Her semi-sheer jumpsuit by Atelier Versace looked great on the red carpet. I love the fit of jumpsuit. The sheer design on top and the tailored bottoms created a perfect silhouette. I love how she paired her jumpsuit with bedazzled pumps and of course her pulled back hair and neutral makeup tied the whole look together.

Jessie J- The color black was a popular color on the red carpet and Jessie J rocked this Ralph and Russo semi-sheered dress with beaded embellishments. The dress showed the right amount of skin and had the right amount of bling. I loved how dramatic this look was and how she chose to wear dark makeup and a dark lip. This look was very edgy, which is what I like to see, especially at an awards show.

Katy Perry- After seeing Katy Perry’s lilac hair, I am so tempted to dye my hair a beautiful, lilac shade. Her purple do complimented her silver beaded fringe dress by Zuhair Mudrad. Perry’s dress was eye-catching. The color, the beads, the fringe, and the purple hair certainly made a statement at the Grammy’s.

Lady Gaga- I am a huge Lady Gaga fan. Recently, she has been working with Tony Bennett, producing a whole new genre of music. Since Gaga has been working with Bennett she has been wearing more sophisticated outfits, which in my opinion is a great look for her. Although I do miss her crazy costumes, especially that meat dress she wore at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, I have enjoyed seeing Gaga’s style transformation. With that being said, I loved her Brandon Maxwell dress she wore to this year’s Grammy’s. The dress was elegant, but still incorporated a plunging neckline and high slits. I loved how Gaga accessorized with emerald colored jewelry and emerald colored makeup.

Worst Dressed

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Charli XCX- I respect Charli XCX for taking a risk, but I just don’t like the color of her Moschino suit. The pale pink color and bright pink bowtie just doesn’t do it for me. Instead, if the suit was more of a neutral color, I would have liked it better.

Taylor Swift- Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t entirely hate Taylor Swift’s dress, I just felt like it was too formal for the occasion. Her turquoise high-low dress by Elie Sab just looked too stiff. I loved the color of her dress, her earrings, shoes, and eye shadow, but for me it was way too much color all paired together.

Kim Kardashian- Is it just me or did Kim Kardashian’s dress look like a bedazzled bath robe? Her dress designed by Jean Paul Gaultier had too much bling, making it a very distracting choice for the red carpet.

Ariana Grande- Ariana Grande’s Versace gown confused me. What’s the point of that piece of silver fabric that just appears to be hanging on the dress? Although I liked the silver and white color combo, the hanging fabric just puzzled me.

Dare to be different

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Rihanna- I decided to add a new category to this post, a dare to be different category and that goes to Rihanna. Kudos to Rihanna for being different. Yes, her dress was crazy, but that is why I like it. She was not afraid to wear something out of the ordinary. Sure her dress looks like a loofah or an ad for Pepto Bismol, but it did a good job grabbing people’s attention, considering everyone can’t stop talking about it. Rihanna shows people that fashion is all about stepping out of your comfort zone and expressing yourself. I hope Rihanna has inspired other stars to take more risks on the red carpet.

That concludes my best and worst dressed celebs for the 2015 Grammy’s. I am looking forward writing a similar post for the Academy Awards, which airs on Sunday, February 22nd. Can’t wait to see which celebs dressed to impress.
