The Best Dressed At The Grammy’s 2017

If there was any award show that I could go to and strut down the red carpet it would be the Grammy’s. This award show is filled with tons of music, celebs, and of course fashion.  To me, the Grammy’s is the chance to experiment with style and wear something unique and funky.  So I love when I see my favorite celebs take some fashion risks on the red carpet.  Keep on scrolling to read all about my favorite looks from last night’s big event.

Solange Knowles

Solange Knowles dazzled in a metallic gold dress by Gucci.  The Knowles family can do no wrong like did you watch Beyoncé’s performance? I was left speechless.  Anyway, back to Solange’s dress.  I like how her dress features some of the hottest trends this season like the beautiful pleated design and exaggerated sleeve.  Her dress is glamorous but at the same time playing around with different shapes and structures.

Katy Perry

I can’t get over Katy Perry’s new hair.  I love the platinum blonde color.  She is totally jumping on the bandwagon that blondes do have more fun.  To be honest, at first Katy’s dress did not make my best dressed list, but after looking more closely at her Tom Ford dress, I fell in love.  Again this is the perfect dress for the Grammy’s because it is fun and different, mixing sparkles and feathers.  I think the pink and rose gold colors really made her blonde hair pop.  The only adjustments I would make to this dress is having the feathers start higher up on the waist to avoid an awkward silhouette.

Paris Jackson

Paris Jackson was the big breakout star at the Grammy’s.  Everyone was amazed by her beautiful red carpet look.  I loved the crisscross detail of her Balmain dress.  Not to mention the beautiful jewel toned colors with the perfect amount of sparkle.  The slits and cutouts of her dress created a beautiful illusion that leaves you asking is it a jumpsuit or a dress?

Laverne Cox

Sigh, if only I could be this fierce. I am obsessed with Laverne Cox’s Bryan Hearns leather dress number.  This is what the Grammy’s is about, taking risks and she certainly knows how to nail the edgy look.  I loved how the dress features that cage detail from top to bottom to show off the perfect amount of skin, while leaving a little to the imagination.  Also, did you see her eye makeup?  Her bold, graphic smokey eyes with some jewel appliques outlining her lashes was just a work of art.  She nailed her look from head to toe.

Lea Michelle

I was not aware of Lea Michelle’s beautiful halter crop top and skirt duo by Roberto Cavalli until I was reading online articles recapping the fashion of last night.  Some celebs chose to expose extra skin with a high slit or a lot of cleavage, but I like how Lea picked a high waisted skirt and crop top to expose a portion of her torso.  For me, this look was perfect for the Grammy’s, being sexy and fun.  I also liked how her look featured a dark, lacy floral pattern for an edgy take on the usual feminine print.

Halsey

Halsey, I totally love your tribute to the 90s with your silky, shiny cobalt blue track suit by Christian Wijnants.  Just like Halsey said on the red carpet, sometimes you don’t feel like wearing a dress and I couldn’t agree more.  I admire your choice to be different and show off this sporty look.  She is totally channeling the popular pajama trend this season, but of course this is one pair of sexy pajamas.  She really trusted her boob tape to keep her from having a wardrobe malfunction.  Not to mention she finished off her killer look with a long, silver diamond chain.  Now this is fashion.

http://www.vanityfair.com/style/2017/02/grammys-2017-best-dressed-star

Lady Gaga

Take that you body shamers! Lady Gaga had no problem standing up to all those who criticized her body at the Super Bowl when she confidently paraded down the red carpet in barely nothing.  She was ready to rock and roll in her all black, leather two piece assemble by Alex Ulichny finished with fishnet stockings and over the knee leather boots.  She was not afraid to show lots of skin or under boob and because she is Lady Gaga she nailed this look.  Her aviator sunglasses, pink hair, and bold lips totally gave her the rock star vibe.  And she totally lived up to those expectations when she performed on stage with Metallica and proceeded to crowd surf.  You go Gaga!

And that’s a wrap for my roundup of the best dressed at the Grammy’s. Once again, the Grammy’s wow me every year. The talent at this year’s show was incredible. If you need me I will be re-watching Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, and Ed Sheeran’s performance over and over again. Talk to you all soon!

Beauty Trends That Need To Go In 2017

It’s crazy to think that we are already 19 days into the New Year.  Anyway, I was so overwhelmed by the positive feedback I received from my Fashion Trends That Need To Go In 2017 post (if you haven’t read it yet, click here).  After reading all your interesting comments, I decided to write a similar post, this time reflecting on the outrageous beauty trends in 2016 that I hope won’t roll over into 2017.  I know 2016 is now in the past and we should be moving forward, but I can’t help to point out the beauty trends in 2016 that in my opinion were far from glamorous.  Keep on reading for the beauty trends that need to go in 2017.

100 layers challenge

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Please tell me you have seen the 100 layers challenge videos on YouTube.  You know, the videos where someone proceeds to layer on absurd amounts of makeup on their face, eyes, lips, and nails.  If you have no idea what I am talking about check out Jenna Marbles 100 layers challenge video.  After watching her apply layers of false eyelashes, tanner, nail polish, foundation, lip color, and hair spray you will be left shocked.  After watching all these 100 layer challenge videos on YouTube, I can’t help but to think how do these people have this much time to kill for applying ridiculous amounts of makeup. I barely have time to apply one layer of my daily makeup routine, let alone 100 layers.  Also, this beauty fad just is so bad for your skin and nails.  I sometimes break out when I apply a little amount of foundation, what would happened if I smeared layers upon layers of foundation on my skin?  Whether people are just doing this to rack up views on YouTube or actually wearing these looks in public, I hope we will ditch the 100 layers challenge and realize that a little bit of makeup goes a long way.

 Contouring overload

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Kind of similar to the 100 layers challenge, but although you are not applying 100 layers of makeup to your skin, you are still applying unreasonable amounts of bronzer and highlight to your face for that perfect contour look.  Once again, who has the time to spend strategically blending powder all over their face to highlight cheekbones or make their nose look smaller.  To me, contouring is just used to cover up your natural features.  Maybe I would be into this trend if I was Kim Kardashian and had time to sit in a makeup chair while a professional makeup artist does my contouring and highlighting.  But, for right now I will stick to my occasional use of bronzer and highlighter when I have extra time in the morning and looking for ways to tune up my makeup game.

 Fake freckles

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Don’t get me wrong, I think makeup is a form of art, so I love seeing elaborate and colorful makeup looks on the runway.  But when you are incorporating fake freckles into your every day makeup look that is where I have a problem.  I have seen many designers using the fake freckle makeup trend on their models and it looks beautiful, but I do not think I can get away with walking around my very preppy campus with fake freckles.  But, if you are looking to make a statement, go ahead embrace this trend, but for me it is a little to crazy for me to wear everyday, except if I am walking on the runway or in a cool editorial photo shoot.

Intense nail art

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Whenever I either paint my nails at home or get my nails done at a salon, my nails chip within 24 hours.  If you don’t need to use your hands at all, then you can pull off having flowers or fur on your nails.  But, I can just imagine what my nails would look like after a day with a crazy manicure like the ones shown above.  Between going to class, using my computer, going to the gym, cooking dinner, and all my other daily activities, I can only handle a single color manicure and just expect it to chip within a day.

Pink eye shadow

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I hate to put this makeup trend on my list because I am aware that a huge trend for 2017 whether in fashion or makeup is the color pink. I am not a pink girl, but I am trying to gradually incorporate different hues of the shade into my wardrobe.  However, I have not jumped on the pink eye shadow makeup trend yet.  Something about bright pink eye shadow on my lids just makes my eyes look like I have a nasty eye infection.  I don’t want to walk around with pink eye makeup and people think I have pink eye because that is never a good look.  I should be more open to trying new makeup looks, so if you have any subtle pink eye shadow makeup looks let me know, because if the look is easy to recreate and not to bright, I am willing to give it a try.

 No makeup makeup look

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I feel like I am now contradicting myself because I just hated on all those exotic makeup looks, now I am hating on a natural makeup look.  To be honest, I am not hating on the “no makeup makeup look,” I am really hating on the title because let’s get real when celebrities claim they are not wearing makeup, they usually are wearing some sort of moisturizer, concealer, blush, or even fake lashes, so how can they say they are not wearing makeup?  I think the recent article published on the website Mic, perfectly sums up my thoughts on this trend.  By using the phrase “no makeup makeup look,” it is an oxymoron because like I said usually these looks require some sort of product.  If you really want to embrace the no makeup makeup look, wake up, wash your face, and head out the door, now that is the ultimate all natural and fresh look.

I think I am done recapping trends from last year, now it is time to look forward and start analyzing the trends for 2017.  Can’t wait for the upcoming New York Fashion Week shows.  I am very hopeful this years trends will be spot on.  Let me know in the comments below if there were any beauty trends in 2016 that you were not a big fan of.  I would love to hear your thoughts and ideas.  I hope everyone is having a great start to 2017.  Talk to you all soon!

Fashion Trends That Need To Go In 2017

Happy New Year! Here’s to an amazing 2017.  But before I can cheer the new year and start discovering new and popular fashion trends for 2017, I think it’s a good idea to take some time to reflect on the trends, that in my opinion, need to vanish in the new year.  We all have different opinions and some of the trends that I mention you might totally love, but that’s the fun of fashion, everyone has their different styles.  You won’t catch me wearing any of the styles mentioned below or if I have, they will no longer be taking up anymore space in my closet.  Keep on reading to find out which trends that were oh so popular in 2016, I hope will vanish in 2017.

Emoji

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Don’t get me wrong, I love my cartoon patches on my denim jacket or sneakers, but I really only like the generic symbols like a heart, peace sign, and so on.  What I am talking about is the emoji on your phone like the dancing girl, the devilish twins, the sassy lady, the laughing face, and more.  The emojis you use when texting your best friend or when you are lost of words. I  love my emojis but only for texting not for fashion.  To me emoji overload on clothing just looks tacky.

Super distressed

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Nothing is better than a pair of distressed jeans which is why whenever I buy a new pair of jeans I always find one with a distressed detail, but when the jeans feature a hole that is the size of your calf, that’s not fashion to me, but just sloppy.  My tip for wearing distressed jeans is finding a pair with small rips that can still be worn around town or even to work.  Avoid the distressed pair of jeans that look like your jeans just went through the shredder.

Overalls

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I wish overalls looked good on me.  Time after time, I always try on a pair of denim overalls hoping that they would work, but sadly each time I am left disappointed.  I’m extremely jealous of all of you who can rock overalls, but for me denim overalls just are so uncomfortable and feature a little too much denim for my liking.

Fur slippers

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Faux fur belongs anywhere except on shoes.  Why would you have fur on your shoes?  My luck is I would step in a massive puddle on the streets of New York and we all know that puddles on New York streets are usually filled with all sorts of nastiness.  My shoes would end up looking like a wet dog.

Gingham

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I love all sorts of prints and patterns like floral, stripes, plaid, and so on, but I have never been into gingham.  To me it just looks like I’m wearing a table cloth.  Once again it looks great on other people, but when I try to wear this print, it is a total fail.  Maybe the gingham print doesn’t have to entirely disappear? Maybe I’ll find subtle ways to incorporate the style into my wardrobe?  But for right now you won’t catch me in head to toe gingham.

Peplum

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

This may be a shocker because I have a feeling a lot of you like the peplum look.  Trust me I get it.  A lot of my friends love wearing a blouse or dress that features that little poof at the waist but for me I feel like that excess fabric is just not needed and just draws more attention to your hips.  Maybe I seem a little bitter towards this trend because I just haven’t found the right peplum piece.

Oversized choker necklaces

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I know what you are thinking…Liv how are chokers on this list when pretty much every style post of yours features a choker?  What I don’t like is extremely oversized chokers.  You know, the type that look like you are wearing a neck brace. To me that just seems so uncomfortable and overdone.  I can’t wear anything more than a simple thin chain because otherwise I feel like I’m choking (no pun intended).

Extremely high slits

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I love a nice dress or skirt with a slitted detail but when the slit goes all the way up to your hip bone, that’s a bit of overkill for me.  A slit like Chrissy Teigen and Bella Hadid wear is a wardrobe malfunction waiting to happen.  I would be terrified to move.  For me, A slit that goes to your knees or a little above is sexier than an extremely high slit because it leaves a little to the imagination.

My fashion taste is forever changing so the things I mentioned now might be the it item for me in the future.  But one thing for sure, there are so many other amazing trends coming in 2017.  I Hope everyone is having a great start to the new year.  Continue the discussion below by sharing some of the trends you would like to see disappear in 2017.  Talk to you all soon!

DIY: Wine Cork Reindeer

By now I am sure everyone’s home (or in my case my apartment on campus) is already decorated for the holidays.  The Christmas tree is up with the ornaments strategically placed, the holiday lights outside are twinkling in the dark, the garland is sparkling from every corner of the wall, and so on.  Although, your holiday decorating might be complete for this season, I’m sure there is still a place in your home that needs a little more décor.  Or are you still searching for that perfect trinket to add to a gift?  Well there’s still time to get in touch with your crafty side this season.

img_5200

Say hello to my little friends!  My wine cork reindeer are not only fun to make but look great in any small place or placed with your favorite holiday decorations.  They also make a great gift.  Keep on scrolling to read the step-by-step guide on how to make these adorable holiday reindeer.

 img_5203

Supplies:

  • Wine corks
  • Razor craft knife
  • Screwdriver
  • Twigs (some with forks)
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun
  • Green or red pipe cleaners
  • Small red pom-poms
  • Jingle craft bells

img_5154

Step 1:

Take one cork and carefully cut it in half.  I used a knife but I was super careful when cutting the cork because trouble could easily follow if you are not paying close attention.  If you have a razor craft knife use that.  Or if you have an easier and safer way to cut the cork go with that.

img_5156

Step 2:

If you have not gathered your twigs yet, go outside and explore your surroundings.  I am sure you will find branches of all sizes.  Make sure to find branches with forks to be used for the antlers.

img_5159

When you gather all your twigs, start cutting your twigs so they are all the same size, about 2 inches long.  I found that the twigs on the thinner side work best because they are easier to cut and stick into the cork.

img_5169

Step 3:

Take your regular sized cork and use a screwdriver, a nail, ice pick, or any object with a sharp tip, and punch four holes into the cork, two in the front, and two in the back.

img_5163

img_5165

img_5167

Stick the twigs into the holes as legs, thus constructing the body of your reindeer.  Once the four twigs are in, make sure your reindeer can securely stand up.  If your reindeer body needs to be adjusted try trimming the twigs.

img_5171

img_5175

img_5173

Before you move on to the next step, safely punch another hole on top of the body so we can use a twig to connect the reindeer’s body to its head.

img_5176

 Step 4:

Next, it is time to work on the reindeer’s head.  Using the half cork, punch a hole that is closer to the center so your reindeer head will stand at an angle.

img_5178

Now insert a twig into this hole and then connect it to the hole on the reindeer’s body.

img_5182

What’s a reindeer without antlers? Punch two holes on top of the reindeer’s head and then add two twigs (preferably twigs with forks).

img_5183

img_5185

img_5186

Step 5:

Your reindeer is starting to look good, but it is time to add a little style to your reindeer.  Take a green or red colored pipe cleaner and cut a little piece and wrap it around the twig between the head and the body. This will act as the reindeer’s scarf.

img_5189

img_5190

To let your reindeer jingle, I attached a jingle craft bell to the pipe cleaner using a hot glue gun.

img_5192

img_5194

Finally, you can’t think of reindeer without thinking of Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer.  So I took a small red pom pom and a glue gun and applied the pom pom to the tip of the reindeer’s head.

img_5198

Now your reindeer is complete and ready to be showcased throughout your home.

img_5201

Next time you finish off a bottle of your favorite wine, make sure to save the cork, because a throw away piece like a wine cork can be transformed into a cute holiday decoration.  There is still time to get all the supplies you need and to sit down and craft while listening to your favorite holiday tunes.  But move fast because the countdown to Christmas is ON!  Only 19 more days!  Hope you all enjoyed this DIY post.  Let me know in the comments below what are some of your favorite holiday DIY’s.  Happy Holidays!

Athleisure: The Secret to Comfy, College Girl Style

It wasn’t always socially acceptable to wear workout clothes in practically every setting.  Now that the athleisure trend has taken off, life is so much easier, for us college students.  With a packed class schedule and late night study sessions, you need a wardrobe that doesn’t add more work to your plate.  Athleisure outfits simplify things big time so you can focus your energy on getting that degree.  Check out these five athleisure items from Fabletics that will add ease and style to your semester.

1. The Lissette High Waist Legging

screen-shot-2016-10-27-at-9-01-27-pm

Who doesn’t love leggings? Comfortable, versatile, and flattering for any body type, they are the quintessential athleisure item.  They are casual enough to wear to class, perfect for a midday workout, and comfy enough to carry you through a late night study sesh.  The Lissette High Waist Leggings are perfect for fall and winter.  You can show off the high-waist with a crop top or keep it comfortable with an oversized sweater.  The compression fabric helps to keep everything in so you can go ahead and have that extra late-night snack with your friends.

2. The Perforated Cap

screen-shot-2016-10-27-at-9-02-37-pm

The rush to finish assignments, study for exams, and keep up with your social life does not leave time or energy to do (ahem—wash) your hair.  That’s where your trusted ball cap comes in.  Cover your bed head without looking like you’re trying to.  The Perforated Cap adds a pop of cobalt blue to your look that distracts from those up-all-night bags under your eyes while the breathable material keeps it comfortable.

3. The Yukon Dress

screen-shot-2016-10-27-at-9-03-58-pm

Just because you’re focused on grades doesn’t mean you can’t look cute and sexy.  But it’s also important to stay comfy!  With parties, club meetings, and tons of homework, you need as many multi-functional pieces in your wardrobe as possible.  Behold The Yukon Dress by Fabletics.  This sweatshirt-meets-miniskirt keeps you warm this fall in its signature athletic fleece.  This fabric is both warm and sturdy so it can survive wearing and washing it multiple times a week.  Two front pockets are convenient for storing an extra pen, bobby pins, or your cute classmate’s phone number— if you have time for that!

4. The Criss Cross Tote

screen-shot-2016-10-27-at-9-04-53-pm

College life is notorious for its all-nighters.  But every go-getter student knows it requires all-dayers too. You hit the library early in the morning for extra studying before the test, rock it in your classes all day long, and don’t get home until after your late night workout.  The Criss Cross tote has enough room for your books and laptop, plus it has an extra removable bag to keep all those little items at hand.  Store your phone, wallet, pens, and snacks in the cute red sack and easily zip it out and throw it in your going-out bag before you hit the town for some post-study partying.

5. The Pella Coat

screen-shot-2016-10-27-at-9-05-37-pm

An athlete-inspired jacket is the perfect finishing touch to your althleisure look.  From moto jackets to windbreakers to bombers, the new jackets by Fabletics are an affordable way to keep warm in style.  The Pella Coat has sophisticated faux leather detail and so many pockets you don’t even need a purse when you wear it.  Its super warm, water-resistant fabric will get you from class to class no matter what the weather and with its removable hood you can dress it up or down.

The Athleisure trend has been a lifesaver.  And thanks to Fabletics I have avoided many mornings rummaging through my closet trying to find something to wear.  Who else is on the Athleisure trend bandwagon? What are some of your pieces and styles? Continue the discussion down below. Talk to you all in my next post.

The Lazy College Girl Skincare Routine ft. Clarisonic

This morning, I hit an all time low. I was applying my makeup, getting ready for the day and all of a sudden I remembered I did not brush my teeth. I can’t believe it. I blame the lack of sleep and everything on my mind other than dental hygiene.

As you can tell by this situation, I am a typical busy, scattered brain college girl. I hate to admit this but it seems like when I am crunched for time, my skincare routine suffers. I’d rather use my time responding to emails, writing blog posts, finishing up class assignments, and socializing then spending time in front of the mirror. I wish I can say that I am one of those girls who set an hour aside before bedtime to apply all sorts of moisturizers and serums under my eyes and around my face, but sadly I am not. I realize that taking care of your skin at an early age will benefit your skin in the future, so I try to find ways to help my skin in a short amount of time. Say hello to the Clarisonic Deep Pore Mia set.

img_4910

img_4925

So far, I am in love with my Clarisonic cleansing device. Not only does it make my skin look great, but also it only takes 60 seconds to achieve a fresh, clean face. The Clarisonic Deep Pore Mia 2 set includes a Mia 2 device, Deep Pore Daily Cleanser, Deep Pore Detoxifying Clay Mask, and a Deep Pore Brush Head. All the essentials you need for great looking skin. The sonic cleansing device features two speeds, making it suitable for all skin types and the two speeds really work better at cleaning your skin than your hands alone.

img_4915

img_4923

Usually, every night I apply the daily face cleanser to the brush head and let the Mia do its work for 60 seconds. When I have a little extra time at night, I love applying the Deep Pore Detoxifying Clay Mask for 10-15 minutes and then use the Mia 2 device to remove even more impurities for healthier looking skin.

img_4945

img_4918

img_4938

After using my Clarisonic device for over a month now, I now understand why the Clarisonic devices are the #1 most recommended skin cleansing devices by dermatologists. No matter how busy your days and nights can be, we all have at least one minute to dedicate to our skin. No need for a fancy, complicated skin care routine because all you need is the Clarisonic Deep Pore Mia 2 set for radiant looking skin.

img_4941

It’s never to late to make a change to your skin care routine. What are you waiting for? So go ahead, buy yourself one (Use the code HERCAMPUS to get a 15% off coupon code), or put it on your holiday gift list, or gift it to friends for birthdays or the upcoming holidays. There is nothing better than having clean and clear looking skin without sacrificing tons of time. Let me know in the comments below if you use any Clarisonic products. I would love to hear your thoughts. Talk to you all in my next post.

For my look, I was channeling my inner Kim K with a tight pencil skirt and body suit. Since it was a nighttime event, I chose dark colors and pops of sparkle.  My H&M pencil skirt had just the right amount of glam, especially with that slit down the side.

My new obsession this season is bodysuits, they are so easy to wear and style.  I kept it simple with a black body suit from Forever 21.

Since it was low cut, I wanted to accessorize to the max. I love my choker and necklace set from Apricot Lane, along with my silver coin earrings also from Apricot Lane.

Finally, a big shout out to my amazing roommate Mckenzi for letting me borrow her black platform heels from H&M.  They totally completed my nighttime look.

As for Lauren, she always dresses to the nines.  For the fashion show, she wore a velvet maxi dress from Zara and paired it with a denim jacket from Brandy Melville.

Throughout the night, she wore her denim jacket draped across her shoulders for an effortlessly chic look.

As for accessories, she of course wore her favorite choker from Brandy Melville and her oh so sexy strappy black heels by Steve Madden.  It’s safe to say that my best friend has style.

You can tell by the two posts that the Her Campus fashion show was a HIT!  It was a chance for two best friends to enjoy each other’s company with a night out in the city, as well as to dress to impress and discover new and empowering fashion designers.

Hope everyone is enjoying the beginning of the fall season.  Although first semester of senior year has been tough, trying to balance school work with a social life and a blog, the changing leaves and the cool, brisk air is inspiring me and my outfits, so keep your eyes open for new posts coming soon.

My Experience: Her Campus College Fashion Week

It’s been five days and I am still on a fashion high from Saturday’s Her Campus Fashion Show.  It was a night filled with awesome style, lots of freebies, great music, loads of pictures, and most importantly empowerment.  As I mentioned in my previous post, all four of the fashion shows featured creative entrepreneur designers, including My Social Canvas, Foray, Ali & Ariel, Frill Clothing, and Bow & Drape.  I loved watching the models strut on the runway, featuring the amazing designs from the four designers.  I was so impressed with the fashion and I was so happy I got the chance to support these designers because I have a feeling they are going to make a statement in the fashion world very soon.

img_4680

Although, the fashion show was the highlight of my New York City trip, it was not the only thing I experienced.  I didn’t get back to campus until around 3 A.M, so that means I must have more to share.  So keep on reading for even more about my experience at Her Campus College Fashion Week in New York City.

img_4678

I could not have survived this trip without my best friend, Lauren, who herself is a fashionista and the girl behind the lens when it comes to the photos on LivForStyle.  Lauren and I killed it in the city, like we always do. It’s never a dull moment when the two of us are together, so I am so happy she was able to experience this night with me. We both dressed to impressed and after looking at the photos, I think we totally nailed it.  Keep your eyes open for a whole post dedicated to our outfits.  Coming soon to a screen near you 😉

Of course, the train ride to the city felt like it took forever. But when we finally arrived at the venue, it was show time.  But, before the shows started we had the chance to check out all the fun tables scattered around the venue.  These included some great sponsors and their wonderful products.  The list included European Wax Center, Insomnia Cookies, Bertha Watches, Sparkling Ice, Boxed Water, and more.

The night consisted of four shows.  The themes included Rush, Festival, Study Chic, and Girl’s Night Out. Naturally, the Girl’s Night Out show was my favorite because it featured lots of leather and knee high boots, which are such fall and winter staples.  I really enjoyed that after each show, the audience was given about 15 minutes to mingle and network with other attendees.  I made some great new contacts. All the models rocked every look.  They were all so fierce and their smiles were contagious, leaving everyone in the audience in absolute wonder and awe.  I can’t wait to go shopping because the models totally inspired me to try some new looks this season.

When the last show wrapped up, Lauren and I were both sad.  We said our final good-byes to the friends we made, collected our stuff, and headed back to the subway.  Our melancholy quickly evaporated when we took a peak inside our exclusive goodie bag from the show.  To my surprise, the goodie bag was filled with awesome gifts.  Inside I found a FitBit, Vince Camuto perfume, a Rebecca Minkoff clutch, a bunch of Maidenform items, a free service at the DryBar, Essie nail polish, the latest issue of People Style Watch magazine, Kind bars, and so much more.

img_4724

img_4808

When we hopped off the subway, our tummies were growling and we knew we wanted our night in the city to continue.  After stopping at a local pub and having a much needed glass of wine, we talked for hours about the show and our goodie bags.  Lauren and I had so much fun that when we finally looked at the time it was almost 1:30 A.M and quickly ran to Grand Central Station to catch the last train.

img_4792

When we got back to campus around 3 A.M we couldn’t keep our eyes open.  You know it’s been a great night in the city when your eyes can’t stay open, your body aches, your feet hurt, and your makeup is smudged.  Lauren and I both agree that Saturday night was a night to remember. Lots of fashion, lots of laughs, lots of mingling, and lots of dancing, no wonder why we are still catching up on our sleep.

Thanks to Her Campus for sponsoring such an amazing event and thanks Lauren for being my partner in fashion.

INVESTING IN THE BASICS

Never underestimate the importance of basics. If you get the essentials right, it’s much easier to build versatile, stylish outfits. As the cooler weather approaches, it’s time to invest in warm layers. Think long-sleeved crew neck tops and polo necks. Add some opaque tights and a few well-fitted pairs of jeans, and you’ve got the foundations pinned down.

REMIXING THOSE SUMMER FAVORITES

You don’t have to put your skirts and dresses away just because the sun has gone into hiding. With the right layers, you can remix your summer style. Team a patterned dress with a pair of thick tights, a biker jacket, and ankle boots for a cool autumnal look. Wear a plain polo neck underneath a denim pinafore dress, or throw a cardigan over the top.

GOING FOR VERSATILE STYLE

When you’re building a capsule wardrobe, it’s advisable to opt for versatile styles. Think about clothes that you wear over and over again. For example, jeans are a staple of most people’s wardrobes. Once you’ve got a pair you love, you can wear them with shirts, blouses, tees and blazers. You can dress them up or down for any occasion. The classic LBD is another worthwhile investment piece.

ACCESSORIZING

Accessories can change an outfit in an instant. If you have bags, shoes, and scarves, you can turn a simple ensemble into several different looks. Add color, mix and match prints, and make your outfit unique. In the fall, hats, bags and statement necklaces are fantastic investments. If you don’t have time to get to the mall, have a look online. You’ll find amazing ideas and styling tips, and you can check out sites like Belt N Bags.

ADDING KEY PIECES

Every capsule collection should have a mixture of staples and key pieces. These eye-catching additions tick off the new season trends and add interest to your wardrobe. In the colder seasons, you may consider spending a little more on a fabulous coat or a killer pair of boots,. Browse fashion magazines and check out your favorite celebrities’ Instagram pages for inspiration.

You may not want to bid farewell to the summer, but the arrival of cooler temperatures offers a great excuse to go shopping. Creating a capsule wardrobe is an excellent way of keeping up to date without spending a fortune. Invest in some basics, recycle your favorite looks and learn to accessorize. Add some trend-ticking statement purchases, and be versatile when you’re styling your outfits.

Endless Summer

(Sigh) Why can’t summer last forever? It seems like the season takes forever to get here, and when it does finally arrive, it leaves in a blink of an eye. I know the official end to summer isn’t until the end of September but I realized the days are getting shorter and the kiddies are back in school (same with me) but I can’t complain because I had one of the best summers ever. Some of the highlights of my summer include interning with a great fashion company, learning tons about the fashion industry, having more time to blog, and vacationing to the Hamptons a few times.

IMG_3011

In today’s post, I am showing you one of my favorite summer outfits that can be easily transitioned into the fall. It took me some time to warm up to the flared leg trend, but I am obsessed with all things flared. What struck me the most about my Madewell pants is the flared detail and the beautiful rose color. I believe this deep rose color will be perfect for the fall. The color kind of reminds me of the leaves soon to be turning colors.

IMG_3001

Since I am “new” to the flared trend, I have not really been experimenting too much when it comes to pairing tops with flared pants. I usually stick to the basics like this slim fitting Madewell cream-colored tank. I like to tuck my shirt in because when styling flared pants I always like to keep the proportions in set, tight on the top and loose and flowy on the bottom.

IMG_3030

IMG_3024

Everyone always asks why I choose to wear a sweater even when the temperatures are in the high 80s. I do so because I feel like it completes my outfit and besides I usually wear it off my shoulders. All fashionistas should have a basic light tan colored cardigan in their wardrobe, like mine from Marshall’s. Never underestimate the power of a simple cardigan completing any outfit.

IMG_3026

IMG_3014

I do wish I was a little taller so I wouldn’t have to wear heels or wedges with my flared pants. But my brown strappy heels by Candie’s does the trick by giving me some extra height and adding major style to any look.

IMG_3029

One way to celebrate all year long is by wearing this seashell necklace from H&M. I love this necklace paired against the deep burgundy of my pants.

IMG_3022

Lastly, what’s a summer outfit without my favorite straw hat from H&M and favorite pair of sunglasses by Steve Madden? So of course, I had to include these essentials in this look.

IMG_3039

Every year I always wonder why we can’t have an endless summer. Only a few more weeks of summer left, so time to take advantage of the beautiful weather and season and show you all my favorite summer looks. Let me know in the comments below what some of your summer looks have been on repeat this season.

#TRACKISBACK

The fashion world has been going nuts over the re- launch of a very popular at the start of the decade; I am talking about the matching velour Juicy Couture jumpsuit. Paris Hilton, Mariah Carey, Kim K, Brittany Spears, and many other celebs loved to model the Juicy Couture velour tracksuits back in the 2000s.

It was because of these celebs, that at every birthday and Christmas I would always ask my parents for one of these most coveted fashion items. Sadly, I was never the girl rocking the popular hot pink tracksuit with the dangling J on the zipper. In fact, I was not mad at my parents for not buying me a Juicy jump suit; I loved wearing my knockoff velour suits from places like Old Navy and The Children’s Place. I could get like 10 jumpsuits for the price of one Juicy Couture tracksuit. But sadly, since I wore the jumpsuits without the J charm, I was not considered “cool,” oh well.   For $200, my parents would rather not spend it on a piece of fabric that was just a trend, and boy were they right because within a short time, the matchy match jumpsuit was no longer the buzz. In fact, in 2014 the creators of Juicy Couture closed all of their stores. The once coveted Juicy Couture was replaced with the arrival of new trends, like skinny jeans.

Now in 2016, everyone can’t get enough of the athlesuire trend. Athlesiure can be described as casual and comfy athletic clothes that look like you just went to the gym but are actually just super fashion forward. Think Lululemon leggings, nylon quarter zip ups, and classic Adidas sneakers.

But what’s the athleisure trend without a good track suit? So the time is right for Juicy Couture to rebrand and luckily Bloomingdales agrees. Juicy Couture and Bloomingdales re-launched the popular velour jumpsuit. At Bloomingdales you can find the ever so popular low-rise pants with matching slim fit jacket with the iconic J charm on the zipper. The limited designer collection is all about bringing back the tracksuit and the look of the 2000s. If you were a big fan of this look at the beginning of the new century you are going to love the #TRACKISBACK campaign. Head over to Bloomingdale’s to purchase the timeless hoodie and flared pant set in seven different colors for $108.

Remember in my 70’s post, seen here, I said trends like to repeat themselves, well the Juicy Track Suit is just another example of the repeating fashion cycle. Let me know in the comments below if you will be re-living the 2000s by sporting one of the revamped tracksuit or would you rather not wear head to toe velour.
