Oh hello summer, we meet again. After a long, freezing winter and a chilly, rainy spring in New York City, I’m thrilled to finally break out my collection of lightweight, colorful summer dresses. There’s nothing better than just throwing on a dress, adding a few simple accessories and walking out the door. Plus, they keep you somewhat cool now that the temperatures are heating up in the city, and if you live in the city you know that feeling of waiting underground for the subway in that cloud of hot, stale air.
Today’s dress is actually from Urban Outfitters. I don’t know the last time I shopped at this store, because there isn’t a location super close to me and I always felt like they were a little too expensive for my liking. But now with my new job, my office is right across the street from an Urban, so obviously during my lunch breaks I have wander in.
Recently, I saw their collection of gorgeous dresses on the clearance or special price racks. My eyes were immediately drawn to this multi colored, somewhat plaid patterned dress. When I was about to try it on, I was afraid it was going to be too colorful or even too preppy for me with the plaid print because I still can’t get behind the preppy style. But to my surprise, it was the perfect style and fit for me. I especially love the babydoll silhouette with the puffed sleeves and square neckline.
As for accessories, like I said above I usually just keep it simple with these type of dresses. So, I’m just wearing gold hoop earrings from H&M and a collection of gold bangles from all different stores.
But then for my necklace, I’m wearing my new horoscope necklace from the oNecklace brand. I love the 14 inch chain because it’s not technically a choker, but it hits right by my collar bone which is exactly what I like. Of course, the constellation outline is for a Taurus because I’m a May baby. But oNecklace has all the signs available which makes for a perfect gift for yourself or to give to others.
Then for shoes, I’m just wearing my taupe open toed booties from Marshall’s. See how I also style them here.
For sunglasses, a few weekends ago in my neighborhood there was a huge street fair. From food vendors to stands selling clothing and accessories. I scored three unique pair of glasses for $20, because when it comes to sunglasses I’d rather have multiple pairs than one expensive pair.
Oh! I can’t forget about the bold lipstick that I’m wearing. A few weeks ago, I visited the Bite Beauty Lip Lab in SoHo and I was able to customize my very own Bite lipstick. Of course, I told the color artist, I wanted a statement, orangey color for summer, and we created the perfect lipstick that I’ve been wearing nonstop.
Stay tuned for more colorful summer time outfits because after all if you are going to embrace color, summer is the perfect time for it. Let me know in the comments below your fashion must haves for summer. Talk soon!
