Beauty Trends That Need To Go In 2017

It’s crazy to think that we are already 19 days into the New Year.  Anyway, I was so overwhelmed by the positive feedback I received from my Fashion Trends That Need To Go In 2017 post (if you haven’t read it yet, click here).  After reading all your interesting comments, I decided to write a similar post, this time reflecting on the outrageous beauty trends in 2016 that I hope won’t roll over into 2017.  I know 2016 is now in the past and we should be moving forward, but I can’t help to point out the beauty trends in 2016 that in my opinion were far from glamorous.  Keep on reading for the beauty trends that need to go in 2017.

 Fake freckles

Don’t get me wrong, I think makeup is a form of art, so I love seeing elaborate and colorful makeup looks on the runway.  But when you are incorporating fake freckles into your every day makeup look that is where I have a problem.  I have seen many designers using the fake freckle makeup trend on their models and it looks beautiful, but I do not think I can get away with walking around my very preppy campus with fake freckles.  But, if you are looking to make a statement, go ahead embrace this trend, but for me it is a little to crazy for me to wear everyday, except if I am walking on the runway or in a cool editorial photo shoot.

Pink eye shadow

I hate to put this makeup trend on my list because I am aware that a huge trend for 2017 whether in fashion or makeup is the color pink. I am not a pink girl, but I am trying to gradually incorporate different hues of the shade into my wardrobe.  However, I have not jumped on the pink eye shadow makeup trend yet.  Something about bright pink eye shadow on my lids just makes my eyes look like I have a nasty eye infection.  I don’t want to walk around with pink eye makeup and people think I have pink eye because that is never a good look.  I should be more open to trying new makeup looks, so if you have any subtle pink eye shadow makeup looks let me know, because if the look is easy to recreate and not to bright, I am willing to give it a try.

 No makeup makeup look

I feel like I am now contradicting myself because I just hated on all those exotic makeup looks, now I am hating on a natural makeup look.  To be honest, I am not hating on the “no makeup makeup look,” I am really hating on the title because let’s get real when celebrities claim they are not wearing makeup, they usually are wearing some sort of moisturizer, concealer, blush, or even fake lashes, so how can they say they are not wearing makeup?  I think the recent article published on the website Mic, perfectly sums up my thoughts on this trend.  By using the phrase “no makeup makeup look,” it is an oxymoron because like I said usually these looks require some sort of product.  If you really want to embrace the no makeup makeup look, wake up, wash your face, and head out the door, now that is the ultimate all natural and fresh look.

I think I am done recapping trends from last year, now it is time to look forward and start analyzing the trends for 2017.  Can’t wait for the upcoming New York Fashion Week shows.  I am very hopeful this years trends will be spot on.  Let me know in the comments below if there were any beauty trends in 2016 that you were not a big fan of.  I would love to hear your thoughts and ideas.  I hope everyone is having a great start to 2017.  Talk to you all soon!

The Lazy College Girl Skincare Routine ft. Clarisonic

This morning, I hit an all time low. I was applying my makeup, getting ready for the day and all of a sudden I remembered I did not brush my teeth. I can’t believe it. I blame the lack of sleep and everything on my mind other than dental hygiene.

As you can tell by this situation, I am a typical busy, scattered brain college girl. I hate to admit this but it seems like when I am crunched for time, my skincare routine suffers. I’d rather use my time responding to emails, writing blog posts, finishing up class assignments, and socializing then spending time in front of the mirror. I wish I can say that I am one of those girls who set an hour aside before bedtime to apply all sorts of moisturizers and serums under my eyes and around my face, but sadly I am not. I realize that taking care of your skin at an early age will benefit your skin in the future, so I try to find ways to help my skin in a short amount of time. Say hello to the Clarisonic Deep Pore Mia set.

So far, I am in love with my Clarisonic cleansing device. Not only does it make my skin look great, but also it only takes 60 seconds to achieve a fresh, clean face. The Clarisonic Deep Pore Mia 2 set includes a Mia 2 device, Deep Pore Daily Cleanser, Deep Pore Detoxifying Clay Mask, and a Deep Pore Brush Head. All the essentials you need for great looking skin. The sonic cleansing device features two speeds, making it suitable for all skin types and the two speeds really work better at cleaning your skin than your hands alone.

Usually, every night I apply the daily face cleanser to the brush head and let the Mia do its work for 60 seconds. When I have a little extra time at night, I love applying the Deep Pore Detoxifying Clay Mask for 10-15 minutes and then use the Mia 2 device to remove even more impurities for healthier looking skin.

After using my Clarisonic device for over a month now, I now understand why the Clarisonic devices are the #1 most recommended skin cleansing devices by dermatologists. No matter how busy your days and nights can be, we all have at least one minute to dedicate to our skin. No need for a fancy, complicated skin care routine because all you need is the Clarisonic Deep Pore Mia 2 set for radiant looking skin.

There is nothing better than having clean and clear looking skin without sacrificing tons of time. Let me know in the comments below if you use any Clarisonic products. I would love to hear your thoughts. Talk to you all in my next post.

When YouTube was my main platform, one of my favorite videos to film was my monthly favorites. I always looked forward to the end of any month to collect all of my favorite products and review them for my viewers. If you want to catch a glimpse of a younger Liv in one of my Youtube videos, click here. It is always fun to take a trip back to the past. Anyway back to the present. It didn’t occur to me until one of my blogging brainstorm sessions that I should bring my monthly favorites posts to the LivForStyle blogging community, so that is exactly what I am doing in today’s post.

First, I want to talk about the makeup palette that has been front and center of my makeup collection. The Make Up Forever Artist Palette Volume 1 in the color Nudes You Need has been my go-to for all of my makeup looks. This palette features nine neutral toned colors, making it a staple to achieve neutral day-time looks or smokey, darker looks. Not only does this palette feature my favorite eye shadow colors, like gold, bronze, copper, and pewter, but the formula of each shade is super pigmented and blendable.
IMG_2311
Next, to accent the beautiful bronze shades, I have been ditching my typical black liquid eyeliner and using my new Tarte Clay Pot Waterproof Liner. This gel liner applies like butter, as it smoothly glides on my upper lash line. If you’re a bronze makeup lover like me, you need this gel liner in your collection.

The cold, dry air has really wreaked havoc on my skin. I usually never noticed my dry, rough skin until all my makeup is wiped away and I am ready for bed. So, a night face cream has been an important part of my nightly routine. I apply my Lumixyl Trifecting Night Cream before bed so while I am sleeping this product can get hard at work moisturizing my skin, fighting blemishes, and reducing fine lines. Finding a good face cream is important, but even more important is finding a good face cream that is made with only the best ingredients. This winter, I have vowed to treat my skin with only the best products, because after all our skin is the biggest organ of our body (decided to throw in something I learned in my biology class today, my professor would be so proud). If you are interested in purchasing one of Lumixyl’s wonderful products, click the link here to receive 25% off your purchase. A deal you won’t want to miss.

Keeping with the face theme, I have been using Maybelline Facestudio Master Contour Palette to contour, define, and highlight my cheeks. The bronzer, blush, highlight trio is perfect for busy people like me because it provides all the products you need to achieve a radiant glow in one palette. I have never been into blush, but for the winter time, I noticed a little color and sparkle is what I need to brighten up winters pale skin.
IMG_2317

Lastly, to wash all my makeup off at night I’ve been using Garnier’s Micellar Water. I have to admit I was persuaded to buy this new face wash after I saw the catchy commercial on television. I am so glad I decided to swoop this up on a recent drugstore shopping trip because it is the best way to wash off makeup and cleanse your skin. Good-bye makeup, oil, and dirt. Hello clean, soft, hydrated skin.

IMG_2325
And there you have it…a round up of my current favorite items. I’m like a kid in a candy shop whenever I am in the drugstore, Sephora, or whenever the UPS man drops off a package. I never know what to expect or what I am going to find. So you better believe that there will be more of my current obsessions posts very soon. Let me know in the comments below what has been your go-to makeup product or clothing item for this month.

A Few Of My Favorite Things: Jamberry Nails

You will never find me without nail polish on my fingernails. No matter how busy I am, I always find time once a week to paint my nails. Call me weird, but I find sitting down and giving myself a manicure so relaxing.

For those who don’t know, I am part of my university’s chapter of Her Campus. According to the Her Campus website, “Her Campus is the #1 global community for college women”. I am very excited to be the style section editor and writer for my campus chapter. As a result of this role, I have received many great opportunities. Being part of Her Campus has definitely sharpened my journalistic skills, but hands down the best part of Her Campus is going to events on my campus that are hosted by many different companies. Not only are these events fun to attend for team bonding but also it allows me to be introduced to new companies and the awesome products they offer.

Recently, our Her Campus team hosted a Jamberry nail party, where the brand Jamberry brought their 300+ nail designs to our campus. Ever since being introduced to Jamberry nails my nails have looked so stylish.

Jamberry nails are similar to the Sally Hansen Salon Effects Stick On Nails, but in my opinion Jamberry nails last longer, look more “real”, and come in a huge variety of colors and patterns. Not to mention you get more for your buck. A sheet of Jamberry nails will allow you two manicures and two pedicures for only $15. To me that’s a bargain compared to most stick on nails that are around $10-$12 for only one manicure.

The patterns that I have been wearing include Reminisce and Sugar & Spice. I have been using my Jamberry nails for a couple weeks now and so far I am very pleased with the results. They don’t chip or flake, and I can’t stress how stylish they are. No wonder why Jamberry nails have been featured in magazines like InstylePeople Style WatchMarie ClaireNylon, and so much more.

As you can tell, I can’t stop raving about the formula and patterns but you might be wondering how well do they apply? Good news, Jamberry nails don’t take tons of time to apply.

First, prep your nails by filing them and rub a cotton ball with rubbing alcohol on each of your nails. Next, match your nail with the best fit from your Jamberry nail sheet, heat with a blow dryer to make it tacky, then apply it to the nail, cut off the excess and file off the rest. Lastly, take your blow dryer and heat your nail again, making sure your Jamberry nail is securely on your nail. Voilà! You are done. I promise it is so simple once you get the hang of it.

The people at Jamberry nails are not lying when they describe this new approach to manicures and pedicures as a “nail revolution.” Say goodbye to boring single colored manicures and say hello to Jamberry nails.

My Current Beauty Obsessions

No shock here that I have some beauty products that I have been obsessing over. These last couple of weeks, I have been using the new palettes that I got for Christmas. I also feel like many drugstore brands have released new items, so whenever I go to the drugstore I am drawn to the new displays. I love getting new makeup because whenever I use new makeup I feel like a new person. Keep on reading to see the products that I can’t get enough of.

Once again, Santa listened to me this year. The Urban Decay Vice 3 Palette was one of the makeup items on my Christmas wish list. To my surprise, one of the gifts I opened on Christmas morning was the beautiful Urban Decay palette. Urban Decay never fails to impress me. Ever since receiving this palette, it has played a major role in my daily makeup routine. This palette has a variety of finishes, including matte, satin, sparkle, and metallic. I really like how this palette offers the perfect balance of neutral shades and jewel toned colors. I have been experimenting with all the gorgeous shades in this palette. I love doing more of a neutral color on the lid, like the color Truth, and adding a pop of color to my crease and outer corner, like the color Alchemy.

IMG_7690

I must have been a very good girl because Santa left another palette under the tree, the Tartelete Amazonian Clay Matte Palette. Who doesn’t love matte eye shadows? Matte eye shadows are great for a neutral look. I love using these matte eye shadows for a simple look and then doing more of dramatic eyeliner, like winged eyeliner or colorful eyeliner on the bottom lash line. So far my favorite colors in this palette include, Free Spirit, Super Mom, Wanderer, and Dreamer, but as you can see this palette offers a variety of colors for different looks, so the possibilities are endless.

For those sleepless nights, concealer is a must to cover those dark circles under your eyes and any imperfections. Like I said, so many drugstore brands have released tons of new products. Maybelline has revealed a new line of concealers, foundations, and primers. I am in love with the new Maybelline Face Studio Master Conceal Camouflage concealer. It really does camouflage any imperfections and brighten up your under eye area. Another plus is that the texture is creamy so it makes it easy to blend. I trust that the full coverage of this concealer will last all day and conceal any of those flaws.

Everyone needs a red lipstick in their makeup collection. Red lipstick is the perfect shade to wear if you want to make a statement. I have been wearing a lot of red lip shades during the holiday season and the winter season to add some color to my look. If you are still looking for a perfect red lipstick, I highly recommend the Maybelline Color Elixir in the shade Signature Scarlet. I am a huge fan of the Color Elixirs because they look and feel like a melted lipstick. The formula is smooth and hydrating, so it won’t dry out your lips. The color is very pigmented, so you don’t have to worry about touching up your lips every hour. The color, Signature Scarlet, is a true red, not to light, not to dark. Since the winter months can be drab, it is a perfect time to experiment with a bright, bold lip.

I promise to do more current beauty obsession posts because I am always trying new makeup and discovering new must-haves. Let me know what products you have been obsessing over lately.
