Goodbye 2015

Dear 2015,

Thanks for an amazing year. A year filled with ups and downs. A year filled with successes and fails. A year filled with challenges. But most importantly a year filled with lessons. I am very hopeful for 2016, but before I enter into the new year, I want to reflect on 2015 and what I learned.

1. Be present

I have always heard to live in the moment, to stop and look, and take time to reflect. However, it was not until this autumn, I knew the real meaning of those phrases. The long walks to class have always been my time to think and to admire the beauty of my campus. When the fall season arrived, I remember taking time to look at the changing leaves, to admire the rich, bold colors and to start appreciating the little things. Now, whether I am with family or friends, whether I am in public or in my bedroom all by myself, I try to let go of my racing thoughts and just be mindful of my surroundings and most importantly be thankful.

2. Acknowledge your inner beauty

This has always been a challenge of mine, but in 2015 I got better at recognizing my inner beauty. By inner beauty, I mean my strength, my passions, my creativity, and other traits that come from the soul. Everyone always acknowledges my love for others, my passion for fashion, my dedication to my blog, my strength, and so on. Now, whenever someone compliments me, I simply say thank you. I am certain that I will continue to celebrate what makes me unique in 2016.

3. My Prince Charming will show up… Eventually

Entering college I had this mindset that I would find a boyfriend freshman year, date him throughout my four years, and eventually get married. I blame all the romance movies I have watched that painted this picture. Now as a junior in college, I can say that this is not reality, maybe for some people, but not me. In 2015, I realized that having a boyfriend is not the most important thing in the world. Even though, it seems like every girl someone special in her life, there is still plenty of us celebrating the single life. I am certain that my time will come and my knight in shining armor will show up. Now, whenever I enter any social setting I leave behind my goal of finding a man and remember to be patient, be confident, and have fun.

4. Be flexible

Being organized and scheduled is a strength of mine but also a weakness. Sometimes being too rigid can be stressful and lead me to miss out on spontaneous adventures. I’d rather stick to my schedule, but this year I learned to be patient and realized that everything cannot be perfect and that is ok because a little unpredictability makes life more fun.

5. Money doesn’t grow on trees

Being an adult is not all fun and games, especially when dealing with finances. As a full-time student, I have few chances to work and make money, so sometimes I find myself in a predicament. Do I splurge on that pair of shoes? Or do I save my money for future opportunities? This year I learned the meaning of a dollar. I noticed how my expenses can add up, making me more conscious with my money. For example, instead of going to my favorite coffee shop every morning and spending over two dollars for coffee, I started to make my coffee in my townhouse. A big savings! I learned that in order to save, you have to make a few sacrifices, but it will all be worth it in the end. In 2015, I officially discovered what it is like to be an adult.

6. Have fun

This year has been busy…finishing my sophomore year of college, starting my own blog, completing a summer internship in the fashion world, and starting my junior year of college. No wonder why I am always exhausted. The rare moments I did have some free time, I remember having fun, being carefree, and feeling like a kid again. I recall many fun memories in 2015, but three occasions stick out, my trip to the Bronx Zoo, visiting Playland in Rye, New York, and jumping off the three meter diving board. Seeing the lions, riding the Dragon Coaster, and cannonballing off the diving board, taught me that sometimes you have to abandon work for a little, log off all social media sites, and just have fun.

7. Focus on You

Lastly, the idea of focusing on me and what makes me happy is something I have discovered the last few months of 2015 and will continue to learn more in 2016. Lately, I recognized that you cannot make others happy, unless you are happy. I noticed that there are people in life that will question you and your choices. Those people will try to steal your self-esteem and make you feel worthless, but those people do not matter, the only thing that matters is you and your happiness.

Here’s another year filled with love, happiness, success, and so on. I am ready for you 2016. Bring it on!

Sincerely,

Liv

Check out some of my favorite moments from 2015.

Christmas Is In The Air

IMG_1537 1

On Christmas morning, I woke up to a Christmas tree surrounded by gifts and the love from my dad, mom, sister, and of course my puppy brother Griffin. That morning, my family and I exchanged gifts, but most importantly we exchanged laughter and love.

IMG_1586

Christmas day is pretty low key. Ever since I could remember, Christmas day has always been hosted at my house. I am so lucky that my family all lives so close, so we can all celebrate the joyous day together. Although, I was in the comfort of my own home, I still took the opportunity to showcase my love for fashion and dress up; after all it is Christmas.

IMG_1547

Instead of the classic little black dress, I decided to switch it up and wear an olive colored dress. I bought this dress featuring a skater silhouette from Forever 21 last week and I have already worn it a couple times. Layer it with a sweater, a vest, and so on and you have one complete and stylish outfit.

IMG_1584

In my opinion, there are two essentials for the holiday season, faux fur and sparkles. I am saving the sparkles for New Years Eve, but for Christmas I decided to break out my favorite faux fur vest. My black faux fur vest is from Macy’s and matches perfectly with my deep green colored dress. My vest makes my outfit more dressed up and of course more chic.

IMG_1551

To dress up my look ever more, I decided to bust out my favorite heeled combat boots from Marshalls. You know the ones I featured in my last style post? But if you don’t remember check out my previous post here.

IMG_1576

Although, I feel like my faux fur vest completes my outfit, I thought my look needed one more accessory. Lastly, to tie together the black and brown in my outfit I wore my long statement necklace from Forever 21. This necklace features a gold etched half circle pendant and black colored gems, perfectly matching all the shades featured in my look.

IMG_1597

I hope everyone had a great holiday. For me, Christmas 2015 was a success because it was a day filled with joy, love, and happiness. My favorite gifts included a new winter coat, Steve Madden heeled booties, another faux fur vest, tons of coloring books, and gift cards.

IMG_1561

I know these next few weeks will be filled with putting together new outfits and of course featuring them on my blog. Thank you for all the sweet comments and support. Without my readers, LivForStyle would not exist. Only a few more days left in 2015, remember to make the best out of the remaining days.

All Bundled Up

IMG_1413

The title of this blog post is very misleading because I have been anything but bundled up the past few days.  The East Coast is experiencing the warmest December ever.  I’ve only worn my winter coat once, but like I said in my previous post, I am not complaining. I have no desire to see snow or bear the frigid temperatures of a normal northeast winter.  Although, it has been warmer than usual, it is still cold enough to wrap myself up in my favorite blanket scarf.

IMG_1363

The plaid blanket scarf trend has exploded this winter season.  Now everyone is keeping warm with this stylish accessory.  The best part about blanket scarves is they are so large you can style them in many different ways.  You can wear it as a shawl, just around your neck, loop it once or a few times, belt it, or my personal favorite is folding it into a triangle and looping it around my neck.  The triangle fold makes the scarf less bulky.

IMG_1497 1

The star of my outfit is my plaid blanket scarf from Ruby Claire Boutique.  The warm, rich colors go with all of my favorite pieces in my closet, so styling this scarf was a no brainer.  Plus, the scarf is so comfy and cozy; you won’t want to take it off.  For more stylish clothes and accessories, head over to Ruby Claire Boutique.  You won’t be disappointed.

IMG_1423

I feel like Superman, I mean Superwoman in my long cardigan from Forever 21.  Whenever the wind blows, my sweater turns into a cape.  Too bad it can’t make me fly, but my sweater certainty scores major style points.  The neutral, cream color is so versatile, the sweater looks great with jeans, leggings, or layered over a dress.

IMG_1406

IMG_1431

Today there is a brisk breeze, so I am wearing a basic white long sleeve shirt from Old Navy under my sweater.  It adds just the right amount of warmth.

IMG_1478

IMG_1471

You can’t go wrong with a medium wash pair of jeans.  They go with everything.  I am loving my denim jeans from the brand Just Black, purchased at Ruby and Jenna.

IMG_1332

Even though I am 5’-4”, I need some extra height today while wearing my sweater.  I am obsessed with heeled boots this winter because they make me look taller and my legs look longer, plus anytime I wear heels I always feel like a superstar.  I purchased these shoes from Marshalls on one of my shopping study breaks two weeks ago.  I was in desperate need of retail therapy so I am glad Marshalls had some great finds.

IMG_1416

Only 2 more days until Christmas…when did that happen?  I think it’s a good time to start wrapping gifts and picking out my outfits for the holiday festivities.  Stay tuned for more style posts.  Hope everyone made it on Santa’s nice list 😉 HO HO HO!

Finals Week Attire

IMG_1294

Alleluia!  Finals are over!  Yesterday I handed in my last final and officially completed my first semester of junior year.  Like always, the semester flew.  I can’t believe I only have three more semesters until graduation.  Such a scary thought.  My fall semester was very fun until you come back from Thanksgiving break and you realize you have three seven page papers due and two finals to take the following week. Luckily, I did survive and manage to complete all my assignments on time but I could not have done it without coffee and my Out of Print clothing.

IMG_1320

IMG_1249

Since I spent most of my mornings, afternoons, and nights studying and writing essays, I kept my outfits simple and comfortable.  I didn’t want to completely abandon my love of looking stylish, but I didn’t always have time to plan outfits, so I stuck with the basics, like leggings, a sweatshirt, a vest, and slip on sneakers.

IMG_1269

Starting from the bottom with my new favorite shoes.  My shoes summed up my mood during finals week.  I was so over the early mornings writing essays and long nights studying.  I love these unique and sassy shoes from Circus by Sam Edelman.  Even better, I scored a great deal on these designer shoes on Black Friday.

IMG_1266

For my pants, I am just wearing basic black leggings from Cotton On.  Nothing to interesting, but I could not live without leggings.

IMG_1291

No surprise here, but again I am wearing my Old Navy black puffer vest.  Since it has been a very warm December (I am not complaining) all I need is my fleece-lined vest to keep warm on the long walk to the library or campus coffee shop.

IMG_1262

Next, the main piece of my outfit is my sweatshirt from Out of Print.  Out of Print offers a variety of products, including t-shirts, sweatshirts, tote bags, pouches, mugs, and so on.  Best part is that when you buy one of their products, the company donates a book to a community in need and also supports authors, publishers, and artists to continue to be inspired and showcase their talent.  My Out of Print Library Stamp Sweatshirt is super soft and features a vintage library stamp-inspired pattern.  So unique! It is perfect for finals week because the sweatshirt is so comfortable and the pattern speaks to me, considering I spent many days and nights at the library.

IMG_1279

For accessories, my tote bag brings back some childhood memories.  I loved reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar.  Such a classic!  Of course, I am in love with my Out of Print tote bag that features the cover of my favorite childhood book.  In my tote you can find my laptop and all my notebooks and textbooks needed to ace my finals.  Also tucked in my tote bag is my pencil pouch which also came from Out of Print. My Composition Notebook Pouch holds all my pens and highlighters, and perfectly matches the book theme.

Now that finals are over, I look forward to the holidays, relaxing at home, and posting more and more on the blog.  Let the blogger brainstorm session begin, which means if you have any ideas let me know in the comments below.  Talk to you all soon!

Holiday Party Survival Guide

The holiday season is in full swing. Christmas music is blasting wherever you go. Stores are packed with holiday shoppers. Homes are decorated with Christmas lights and grocery stores are sampling their favorite holiday treats. The holiday season is the most wonderful time of the year, but it can also be quite stressful. What to wear? What to give? What to serve? You’re not alone because all these questions run through my mind this time of year. Even though, I can’t go shopping with you personally, help you decorate, or help you entertain, I can provide a few tips for you to look great at your upcoming holiday festivities. So, with help from Ulta Beauty and my love of makeup, let’s see if we can lessen a little bit of your holiday stress.

My favorite makeup look for the holiday season is classic and effortless; matte eye shadows, winged eyeliner, and a red lip. If this is the look you want to achieve for the holidays, you will need my must have products, including the Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette, L’Oreal liquid eyeliner, and Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick in the color Velvet. All of these items can be found at your nearest Ulta Beauty store. The Urban Decay palette has the perfect variety of matte eyes shadows to create a simple eye look that won’t compete with the winged eyeliner and red lip. Creating the perfect winged eyeliner look can be challenging. It requires a steady hand, patience, and the L’Oreal Infallible Super Slim Liquid Eyeliner. This eyeliner creates an intense black line and gives you enough control to flick out the line for the perfect cat eye shape. You can’t do the holidays without sporting a red lip, but who has time to keep reapplying your favorite red lipstick. The Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick is a liquid lipstick with a long-wear formula, high shine, and super rich color.

Now that your eyes and lips look great, it’s time to focus on your nails. Whether it’s a holiday party or some other festive event, a sparkly manicure is a must. I’m obsessed with the color Comet Closer by OPI. This textured gold shade is part of their new Starlight collection. A sparkly gold nail color will go with any outfit and surely catch the eye of all the partygoers.

Who doesn’t like to smell wonderful? So, it’s important to keep a rollerball perfume in your purse and do a little spritz throughout the day and night. I love the Pink Sugar Rollerball for its sweet smell of cotton candy, raspberry, strawberry, vanilla, and orange.

When you are running to back-to-back holiday gatherings, it is important to keep your makeup fresh. For this I keep the NYX Blemish Control Blotting Paper in my purse and use it throughout the day and night to reduce shine and ensure my makeup stays flawless.

And when the holidays are over and you finally have time to catch your breath and relax, slip on your Body Benefits Aloe-Infused Lounge Socks to heal your sore and tired feet from all the days and nights of wearing heels. These socks are made from aloe extract to soothe and hydrate.

Screen Shot 2015-12-01 at 9.56.05 AMI hope you all enjoyed my holiday survival guide. Ulta Beauty is your one-stop shop for all your holiday beauty gifts, whether for you, friends, or family.
